Four Youth Trainers on the European Voluntary Service, the Non-Formal Education and other Youth issues!

On July, I was in Athens, Hellas (Greece), for one more European Voluntary Service On Arrival Training.

But this time, something was different: Elizabeth, an EVS Volunteer for the Orange R@dioNet, a project of a Youth NGO named "Solidarity Tracks", based in the Island of Lefkada, Hellas (Greece), asked us, the Trainers, to give her an interview on EVS, Non-Formal Education and Youth Training in Europe!

Elizabeth also asked the Volunteers to give information about their EVS projects, as well to help her produce an EVS radio spot!!!

16th ASEF University * 16ο Πανεπιστήμιο Ιδρύματος Ασίας-Ευρώπης

It was with a great success that the 16th ASEF University on the topic of «Public Health and Vulnerable Groups: Access to Quality Health Care Services», in which I had the honour to participate as the representative of Hellas (Greece), was held in Łódź, Poland, on 29/06-10/07/2010.

The Asia-Europe Foundation
The Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF) was founded on 1997 and is the only permanent institution of the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM), founded on March 1996.

The forty five (45) participating partners are: the twenty seven (27) European Union member-states: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hellas, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, The Netherlands, United Kingdom, the ten (10) Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) member-states: Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand, The Philippines, Vietnam, six (6) more Eastern Asian countries: China, India, Japan, Mongolia, Pakistan, South Korea, the European Commission and the ASEAN Secretariat.

On October 2010, this number is expected to increase to forty eight (48), because of the entrance of Australia, New Zealand and the Russian Federation.

The ASEF University
The University, a two (2) weeks intensive programme of competences (knowledge, skills, attitudes) enrichment, dialogue development and experiences exchange, which is held once annually in places alternating between Asia and Europe, is one of the ASEF's flagship-projects, having as its purpose the promotion of intercultural exchanges and networking between undergraduate and graduate University students and young Scientists form Asia and Europe.

After the end of the programme, the participants participate automatically in the ASEF University Alumni Network (ASEFUAN).

The 16th ASEF University
This year's, 16th, University was implemented in co-operation with the Medical University of Łódź (UMED) and the participants, coming not only from different countries and cultural backgrounds, but also from a variety of scientific fields (Medicine, Nursing, Law, Environmental Studies, Political Science, International Relations, Economics, Journalism, et.c), had the opportunity to attend lectures by internationally reknown University Professors and experienced high officers of international organisations, to dialogue creatively and to exchange opinions, to participate in experiential exercises and to share experiences in a multicultural context.

Some of the topics developed in the University include: Challenges for Public Health in Asia and Europe, Challenges in Health Care Policy, Patients' Rights, Public Health and Development, the Connection of the Scientific Health Research and of the Production of End-user Health Products, Social Co-operative Entrepreneurship and Public Health, Initiatives on Public Health by Non-Governmental Organisations, Population Health after Natural and Human-generated Disasters, Migration Health and Health Workers Migration (a topic of important interest for Cyprus and Greece), Arts and Health, Young People and Public Health Promotion.

To conclude, it must be mentioned that the participants worked in groups, which authored Policy Recommendations on the topic of the University, which will be discussed during the 8th ASEM Summit of Heads of States and Governments, that will be held in Brussels, Belgium, on October 5th & 6th, 2010.

Με μεγάλη επιτυχία πραγματοποιήθηκε στο Γουντς (Łódź) της Πολωνίας, από 29/06 έως 10/07/2010, το 16ο Πανεπιστήμιο του Ιδρύματος Ασίας-Ευρώπης , με θέμα «Δημόσια Υγεία και Ευπαθείς Ομάδες: Πρόσβασι σε Ποιοτικές Υπηρεσίες Φροντίδας Υγείας», στο οποίο είχα την τιμή να συμμετάσχω ως εκπρόσωπος της Ελλάδας.

Το Ίδρυμα Ασίας-Ευρώπης
Το Ίδρυμα Ασίας Ευρώπης (Asia-Europe Foundation – ASEF) ιδρύθηκε το 1997 και αποτελεί τον μόνο φυσικό θεσμό της Συνάντησης Ασίας-Ευρώπης (Asia-Europe Meeting – ASEM), η οποία ιδρύθηκε τον Μάρτιο του 1996.

Οι σαράντα πέντε (45) εταίροι που συμμετέχουν είναι: οι είκοσι επτά (27) χώρες-μέλη της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης: Αυστρία, Βέλγιο, Βουλγαρία, Γαλλία, Γερμανία, Δανία, Ελλάς, Εσθονία, Ηνωμένο Βασίλειο, Ιρλανδία, Ισπανία, Ιταλία, Κάτω Χώρες, Κύπρος, Λετονία, Λιθουανία, Λουξεμβούργο, Μάλτα, Ουγγαρία, Πολωνία, Πορτογαλία, Ρουμανία, Σλοβακία, Σλοβενία, Σουηδία, Τσεχική Δημοκρατία, Φινλανδία, οι δέκα χώρες-μέλη της Ένωσης των Χωρών της Νοτιοανατολικής Ασίας (Association of Southeast Asian Nations - ASEAN): Βιετνάμ, Ινδονησία, Καμπότζη, Λάος, Μαλαισία, Μπρουνέι, Μυανμάρ, Σιγκαπούρη, Ταϊλάνδη, Φιλιππίνες, έξι (6) ακόμα χώρες της Ανατολικής Ασίας: Ιαπωνία, Ινδία, Κίνα, Μογγολία, Νότιος Κορέα, Πακιστάν, η Ευρωπαϊκή Επιτροπή και η Γραμματεία της Ένωσης των Χωρών της Νοτιοανατολικής Ασίας (ASEAN Secretariat).

Τον Οκτώβριο του 2010 ο αριθμός αυτός αναμένεται να αυξηθή στους σαράντα οκτώ (48), λόγω εισόδου της Αυστραλίας, της Νέας Ζηλανδίας και της Ρωσικής Ομοσπονδίας.

Το Πανεπιστήμιο του Ιδρύματος Ασίας-Ευρώπης
Το Πανεπιστήμιο, ένα διεβδομαδιαίο εντατικό πρόγραμμα εμπλουτισμού ικανοτήτων (γνώσεων, δεξιοτήτων και στάσεων συμπεριφοράς), ανάπτυξης διαλόγου και ανταλλαγής εμπειριών, το οποίο λαμβάνει χώρα άπαξ ετησίως εναλλάξ στη Ασία και στην Ευρώπη, αποτελεί ένα από τα σχέδια-ναυαρχίδες του Ιδρύματος, έχοντας ως σκοπό την προώθηση διαπολιτισμικών ανταλλαγών και δικτύωσης μεταξύ προπτυχιακών και μεταπτυχιακών φοιτητών Πανεπιστημίων και νέων Επιστημόνων από την Ασία και την Ευρώπη.

Με την λήξι του προγράμματος, οι συμμετέχοντες μετέχουν αυτοδικαίως στο Δίκτυο Αποφοίτων του Πανεπιστημίου του Ιδρύματος Ασίας-Ευρώπης (ASEF University Alumni Network - ASEFUAN).

Το 16ο Πανεπιστήμιο του Ιδρύματος Ασίας-Ευρώπης
Το φετινό, 16ο Πανεπιστήμιο, πραγματοποιήθηκε σε συνεργασία με το Ιατρικό Πανεπιστήμιο του Γουντς (Medical University of Łódź – UMED και οι συμμετέχοντες, προερχόμενοι όχι μόνο από διαφορετικές χώρες και πολιτισμικά υπόβαθρα, αλλά κι από μια πληθώρα επιστημονικών πεδίων (Ιατρική, Νοσηλευτική, Νομική, Περιβαλλοντολογία, Πολιτικές Επιστήμες, Διεθνείς Σχέσεις, Οικονομικά, Δημοσιογραφία, κ.α.), είχαν την ευκαιρία να παρακολουθήσουν διαλέξεις από διεθνούς εμβέλειας Καθηγητές Πανεπιστημίων και από έμπειρα ανώτατα στελέχη διεθνών οργανισμών, να διαλεχθούν δημιουργικά και να ανταλλάξουν απόψεις, να μετάσχουν σε βιωματικές ασκήσεις και να μοιραστούν εμπειρίες σ’ ένα πολυπολιτισμικό πλαίσιο.

Μερικά από τα θέματα που αναπτύχθηκαν στο Πανεπιστήμιο ήταν: Οι Προκλήσεις για την Δημόσια Υγεία στην Ασία και στην Ευρώπη, οι Προκλήσεις στην Πολιτική Φροντίδας Υγείας, τα Δικαιώματα των Ασθενών, η Δημόσια Υγεία και η Ανάπτυξι, η Σύνδεσι Επιστημονικής Έρευνας Υγείας και Παραγωγής Τελικών Αγαθών Υγείας, η Κοινωνική Συνεργατική Επιχειρηματικότητα και η Δημόσια Υγεία, οι Πρωτοβουλίες των Μη Κυβερνητικών Οργανισμών για την Δημόσια Υγεία, η Υγεία Πληθυσμών μετά από Φυσικές και Ανθρωπογενείς Καταστροφές, η Μεταναστευτική Υγεία και η Μετανάστευσι Επαγγελματιών Υγείας (θέμα ιδιαίτερου ενδιαφέροντος για την Κύπρο και την Ελλάδα), οι Τέχνες και η Υγεία, οι Νέοι και η Προαγωγή της Δημόσιας Υγείας.

Στο σημείο αυτό, πρέπει να υπενθυμίσουμε ότι ο όρος «Δημόσια Υγεία» έχει συχνά διπλό νόημα στην γλώσσα μας, αφού μ' αυτόν αναφερόμαστε είτε γενικά στην Υγεία του ευρύτερου κοινού (του δήμου, με την αρχαιοελληνική έννοια της λέξης), είτε ειδικά στις παρεχόμενες από τον Δημόσιο Τομέα (δηλαδή, από τον μηχανισμό της Πολιτείας) Υπηρεσίες Υγείας. Οφείλουμε να διευκρινίσουμε ότι εδώ χρησιμοποιούμε τον όρο με την πρώτη, την γενική, έννοια.

Αξίζει να αναφερθή, τέλος, ότι οι συμμετέχοντες εργάστηκαν σε ομάδες, οι οποίες συνέγραψαν Συστάσεις Πολιτικής σχετικές με το θέμα του Πανεπιστημίου, οι οποίες θα συζητηθούν κατά την 8η Σύνοδο Αρχηγών Κρατών και Κυβερνήσεων της Συνάντησης Ασίας-Ευρώπης, που θα λάβη χώρα στις Βρυξέλλες στις 5 & 6 Οκτωβρίου 2010.

Προχθές, την Παρασκευή, είχαμε την καθιερωμένη πλέον συνεστίασι παραλίας (beach party) του προσωπικού του Αρεταίειου Νοσοκομείου, η οποία φέτος έλαβε χώρα στην Ακτή του Κυβερνήτη.

Λίγο το παραπάνω κέφι στην ατμόσφαιρα, λίγο το παραπάνω οινόπνευμα στο αίμα, απέτρεψαν την επιστροφή μου στην Λευκωσία κι έτσι αποφασίσαμε με τον καλό μου φίλο τον Νίκο τον Ερηνάκη και τον φίλο του (νομίζω πια και δικό μου) Βαγγέλη να διανυκτερεύσουμε στην Καλαβασό, όπου ένας καλός φίλος του Νίκου, ο Σάββας ο Βαρναβίδης, λειτουργεί ένα ιδιαίτερο ξενοδοχείο.

Λέω ιδιαίτερο διότι το The Library Hotel (Ξενοδοχείο Βιβλιοθήκη) είν' ακριβώς αυτό που λέει το όνομά του: ένα οικοδομικό συγκρότημα του ΙΘ΄ αιώνα, το οποίο ανακαινίσθηκε, βάσει των σχεδίων της Αρχιτέκτονος Αντωνίας Θεοδοσίου, για να στεγάσει, με επίκεντρο μία μεγάλη βιβλιοθήκη, έναν πράσινο και φιλικό προς το περιβάλλον χώρο χαλάρωσης κι ευεξίας.

Η βιβλιοθήκη, το "Ψυχής Ιατρείον", όπως αναγράφεται στην είσοδό της, διαθέτει βιβλία Τέχνης, Ιστορίας, Λογοτεχνίας και Φιλοσοφίας σε πέντε Ευρωπαϊκές γλώσσες (Ελληνικά, Αγγλικά, Γαλλικά, Γερμανικά, Ισπανικά) και μια μεγάλη συλλογή ποιοτικών κινηματογραφικών ταινιών και καλής μουσικής, με την τζαζ να πρωταγωνιστεί!

Τα δωμάτια και οι σουΐτες τους ξενοδοχείου, εξάλλου, φέρουν το όνομα ενός μεγάλου του Πνεύματος, όπως Σαπφώ, Σεφέρης, Ουάϊλντ, Νίτσε, Πεσσόα.

Πέραν τούτων, ένα οργανωμένο συγκρότητημα λουτρών και σπα με διάφορες υπηρεσίες αισθητικής και χαλάρωσης, βασισμένων σε Αρχαιοελληνικές τεχνικές και χρήσι βοτάνων, βρίσκεται στην διάθεσι του επισκέπτη, ενώ το εστιατόριο "Μίτος" προσφέρει εξαιρετικές Μεσογειακές προκλήσεις ακόμα και στον πιο απαιτητικό ουρανίσκο!

Όμως, αυτό που πράγματι σε κερδίζει, είναι η μοναδική αίσθησι φιλοξενίας, με τον Σάββα, αλλά και όλο το διεθνές προσωπικό του, να μεριμνά για κάθε μια ανάγκη σου!

Αν βρίσκεστε στην Κύπρο ή εάν σκοπεύετε να την επισκεφθείτε, σάς συνιστώ ανεπιφύλακτα το The Library Hotel. Two days ago, on Friday, we had the usual annual beach party of the Aretaeio Hospital personnel, which this year took place at the Governor's Beach, Cyprus.

A bit of extra joy in the atmosphere, a bit of extra alcohol in the blood, prevented my return to Nicosia, so, together with my good friend Nikos Erinakis and his friend (from now on, mine, too, I guess) Vangelis to stay overnight at the village of Kalavasos, where a Nikos' good friend, Savvas Varnavides, operates a very special hotel.

I call it a very special one, because The Library Hotel is exactly what its names claims to be: a XIX century building complex, restored, according to the designs by Architect (Mrs.) Antonia Theodosiou, to house a green and environmentally friendly place of relaxing and wellness, having a big library as its focal point.

The library, the "Soul's Sanitarium", as written on its entrance, provides books of Art, History, Literature and Philosophy in five European languages (Hellenic/ Greek, English, French, German, Spanish), and a big collection of quality cinema films and of good music, with jazz being the protagonist!

Moreover, the rooms and the suites of the hotel, bear the name of a great personality of the Spirit, such as Sappho, Seferis, Wilde, Nietzsche, Pessoa.

Apart of that, an organised baths and spa complex, providing various services of cosmetics and relaxing, based on Ancient Greek techniques and the usage of herbs, is at the visitor's disposal, while the "Mitos" restaurant offers excellent Mediterranean challenges even to the most demanding palate!

Yet, what actually wins your heart, is the unique sense of hospitality, with Savvas and all his international personnel to cherish for each one of your needs!

If you are in Cyprus or if you are planning to visit it, I undoubtedly recommend you The Library Hotel. Παραμύθι * A Fairytale

Στις 29 Μαΐου 2010 πραγματοποιήθηκε από τον Σύλλογο Ελλήνων Αποφοίτων του Πλοίου για την Παγκόσμια Νεολαία στην Αθήνα, σε αίθουσα της Γενικής Γραμματείας Νέας Γενιάς, παρουσίασι του Προγράμματος "Πλοίο για την Παγκόσμια Νεολαία", παρουσία εκπροσώπων και της Πρεσβείας της Ιαπωνίας στην Ελλάδα.

Δεν μπορούσα, δυστυχώς, να παραστώ, αλλά έστειλα το παρακάτω Παραμύθι, το οποίο ανέγνωσε ο καλός μου φίλος κι αδελφός Γρηγόρης Κόντος, προβάλλοντας ταυτόχρονα κάποιες φωτογραφίες από το πρόσφατο, 22ο, Πρόγραμμα, στο οποίο συμμετείχαμε.

Παραμύθι

Τώρα, φίλοι μου, επιτρέψτε μου να σας πω μιαν ιστορία. Πιείτε μια γουλιά απ' τον καφέ, το τσάι ή τον χυμό σας, γύρτε πίσω αναπαυτικά, κλείστε τα μάτια σας κι αφεθείτε στην μαγεία της...

Μια φορά κι έναν καιρό, λένε πως ήταν ένα παιδί, ένα μικρό, μάλλον ήσυχο αγοράκι, που ήθελε να μαθαίνει πράγματα, που διψούσε ν' ανακαλύψει τον κόσμο. Του άρεσε πολύ ν' ακούει τον πατέρα του, παλιό πλοίαρχο που ασχολιόταν πια με το διεθνές εμπόριο, για τα διάφορα μέρη που επισκέφθηκε, για τους περίεργους ανθρώπους που είδε εκεί, για τα παράξενα φαγητά τους, τα αλλόκοτα ρούχα τους, τις άγνωστες λαλιές τους. Άκουγε το αγοράκι και θαύμαζε!!!

Το αγοράκι μεγάλωνε σιγά σιγά κι άρχισε να ψάχνει μόνο του τον κόσμο. Του άρεσε να γυρνάει με τις ώρες σε παλιές, σκονισμένες βιβλιοθήκες και σε παλιά, υπόγεια βιβλιοπωλεία, όπου έβρισκε μερικές φορές πολύτιμους θησαυρούς, απ' αυτούς που δεν μπορούμε ποτέ να εκτιμήσουμε πλήρως, παρά μόνον όταν κατασταλάξει μέσα μας με τα χρόνια η πείρα της ζωής σε σοφία της ζωής.

Κάποια στιγμή έπεσε στα χέρια του ένα περίεργο βιβλίο, για μια μακρινή χώρα που την έλεγαν Ιαπωνία. Του έκανε τόση εντύπωση, που άρχισε να ψάχνει περισσότερο γι' αυτήν. Διάβασε το αρχαίο «Κοτζίκι», απόλαυσε ποιήματα «Χάϊκου», έμαθε για τον Κώδικα των Σαμουράι, είδε κάποια περίεργα γιαπωνέζικα κινούμενα σχέδια, τα «άνιμε», είδε ταινίες κι άκουσε την παράξενη γλώσσα των ανθρώπων εκεί.

Μ' όλ' αυτά, η επιθυμία του να επισκεφθεί την μακρινή και παράξενη αυτή χώρα μεγάλωνε συνεχώς. Και να που ξαφνικά, η τύχη, η θεία πρόνοια (ποιος ξέρει;;;), το 'φερε έτσι ώστε να μπορέσει τελικά να πάει στην Ιαπωνία, προσκεκλημένος της ίδιας της Ιαπωνικής Πρεσβείας, εκπροσωπώντας την χώρα του, την Ελλάδα, μαζί με άλλους συμπατριώτες του, που τώρα πια τους λέει αδέλφια του!

Μια ωραία Δευτέρα, λοιπόν, νέος ενήλικας πια, έφυγε απ' το σπίτι του, κι όλοι μαζί πέταξαν για το Τόκυο. Φτάνοντας εκεί, ήρθε το πρώτο σοκ. Και δεν ήταν το σοκ απ' το τζετ-λαγκ, απ' τις πολλές ώρες πτήσης και την διαφορά της ώρας, ήταν το σοκ της 24 ώρες ζωντανής πόλης.

Γιατί αυτό είναι το Τόκυο, μια μεγαλούπολη που είναι συνεχώς ζωντανή, με πάμπολλους ανθρώπους, όλων των φυλών και χρωμάτων, που κάθε στιγμή της ημέρας και της νύχτας μπορείς να βρεις ό,τι ζητάει η ψυχή σου.

Μα, αν κι είναι μια τόσο μεγάλη μητρόπολη, ποτέ δεν αισθάνθηκε αυτός κι οι φίλοι του κίνδυνο ή απειλή. Τουναντίον, είναι τόσο φιλικοί οι άνθρωποι, τόσο ευγενικοί στους τρόπους και στην συμπεριφορά τους, που σου ανοίγει η καρδιά να είσαι μαζί τους!!!

Μερικές μέρες μετά έφυγε ο φίλος μας για το Τοτσίγκι, μια γιαπωνέζικη επαρχία, για να μείνει στο σπίτι ντόπιων ανθρώπων και να γνωρίσει καλύτερα τον τρόπο ζωής τους. Τι εκπλήξεις τον περίμεναν εκεί!!!

Πρώτ' απ' όλα, σε πια γλώσσα να μιλήσει;;; Χμμ, Ελληνικά δεν ξέρουν, Γιαπωνέζικα δεν ξέρει, τα Αγγλικά, τα Γαλλικά ή κάποια άλλη «διεθνής» γλώσσα δεν είναι ούτε το φόρτε του, ούτε το δικό τους, τι να κάνει;;; Αχά, ιδού η λύση: λίγες εικόνες και σχέδια, μερικά νοήματα, κάμποση παντομίμα, κι απίστευτα πολύ γέλιο έκαναν την επικοινωνία εφικτή!!!

Επόμενη έκπληξη, το φαγητό!!! Μα καλά, μπιφτέκι στο πρωινό;;; Και τι, ήρθαμε σε τόσο καλό εστιατόριο για να φάμε ωμό ψάρι;;; Κι όμως, ο φίλος μας το διασκέδασε απίστευτα όλο αυτό. Ναι, δεν είχε συνηθίσει να τρώει ωμό ψάρι στο μεσημεριανό του, ούτε να τρώει μπιφτέκι στο πρωινό του, ούτε φυσικά να πίνει πράσινο τσάι, να χρησιμοποιεί ξυλάκια φαγητού και να έχει σε κάθε γεύμα ρύζι αντί για ψωμί. Όμως, οι γεύσεις ήταν τόσο πλούσιες, τα αρώματα τόσο διαφορετικά, που ένιωθε πως ανακάλυπτε την πραγματική Ιαπωνία μέσ' απ' το τραπέζι της!!!

Πήγε και σε Βουδιστικό ναό, μα και σε Σιντοϊστικό, είδε πως προσεύχονται οι άνθρωποι εκεί και προσευχήθηκε κι αυτός στον δικό του Θεό, που του 'δωσε την ευλογία να βρίσκεται εκεί!!!

Για την κυρία του σπιτιού, την Γιούκο, τι να πρωτοθυμηθεί ο μικρός μας φίλος;;; Απ' την αρχή του θύμισε τις μαμάδες κάποιων παλιών παιδικών φίλων του, που, όταν τους επισκέπτεται στα πατρικά τους, κάνουν τα πάντα για να τον φιλοξενήσουν με τον καλύτερο δυνατό τρόπο και περνούν όλο τους τον χρόνο για να τον κάνουν να νιώσει άνετα, άσχετα αν στη πραγματικότητα δεν τον ξέρουν καθόλου ή αν δεν έχουν κοινά ενδιαφέροντα. Έτσι ήταν κι αυτή: δεν είχαν κάτι κοινό για να μιλήσουν (δεν το επέτρεπε η γλώσσα, δηλαδή), μ' απ' την αρχή, οι πράξεις έδωσαν νόημα στην σιωπή!!!

Πέρασαν οι μέρες, κι ο φίλος μας έφυγε κι επέστρεψε στο Τόκυο. Εκεί πήγε σ' ένα μεγάλο Ολυμπιακό Κέντρο Νέων, που είδε ξανά όλους τους φίλους και φίλες συμπατριώτες του, μα είδε και νέους και νέες απ' άλλες χώρες: Αίγυπτος, Αυστραλία, Ηνωμένα Αραβικά Εμιράτα, Ινδία, Ισημερινός, Κένυα, Μπαχραίην, Ομάν, Σρι Λάνκα, Τουρκία, Υεμένη, και φυσικά Ιαπωνία!!!

Κι είναι εδώ, στο Ολυμπιακό Κέντρο Νέων του Τοκύου, που το πραγματικό πνεύμα του SWY άρχισε να γεννιέται!!!

Γιατί εδώ πρωτοείδε άλλη μια πτυχή της γιαπωνέζικης κουλτούρας, αυτήν της τέλειας οργάνωσης και του αυστηρού χρονοδιαγράμματος, με τα ατέλειωτα « orientations» και την συνεχή επανάληψη της λεπτομέρειας!

Γιατί εδώ έπαιξε για πρώτη φορά με όλους τους συμμετέχοντες του προγράμματος, γιατί εδώ γέλασε για πρώτη φορά με όλους τους συμμετέχοντες του προγράμματος, γιατί εδώ πρωτογνώρισε νέους με τους οποίους δέθηκε σε φιλίες γερές!

Ο καιρός πέρασε, το ταξίδι με το Πλοίο έπρεπε να ξεκινήσει κι ο μικρός μας φίλος, αυτός που τόλμησε να βγει στον πηγαιμό για την Ιθάκη, απέκτησε πάμπολλες εμπειρίες που του χουν γίνει βιώματα. Μα κάθε φορά που θέλει να σκεφτεί το μέλλον του, στρέφει το κεφάλι του προς την Ανατολή, αναπολεί στο μυαλό του τις εικόνες, τους ήχους, τα αρώματα, τις γεύσεις, τ' αγγίγματα που ένιωσε σ' αυτό το ταξίδι και χαμογελάει με αισιοδοξία, ανυπομονώντας για το επόμενο ταξίδι του εκεί!!!

Γιατί στην Ιαπωνία ερωτεύθηκε και μαζί ερωτεύθηκε την Ιαπωνία!!!

On May 29th, 2010, in Athens, Hellas, in a conference room of the Hellenic General Secretariat for Youth, a presentation of the "Ship for the World Youth" Program, organised by the Ship for the World Youth Greece Alumni Association, in the presence of representatives of the Embassy of Japan in Greece, was held.

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to be present, but I sent the following Fairytale, which was read by my good friend and brother, Gregory Kontos, projecting simultaneously some photos form the recent, 22nd, Program, in which we participated.

A Fairytale

Now, my friends, allow me to tell you a story. Drink some of your coffee, tea or juice, sit back relaxing, close your eyes and let yourselves to its magic...

Once upon a time, they say that there was a child, a pretty calm little boy, who wanted to learn things, who was thirsty for discovering the world. He loved listening to his father, an old merchant ship captain, now occupied in international commerce, talking about the various places he had visited, the strange people he had seen there, their bizarre foods, their unfamiliar clothes, their unknown languages. He was listening to, the little boy, and was admiring!!!

The little boy was slowly growing up and started to search the world on his own. He liked to wander, spending hours and hours, in old, dusted libraries and in old, underground bookstores, where he was sometimes finding precious treasures, of the ones that we can never fully appreciate, unless when, by the years, the experience of life settles inside us as wisdom of life.

At some moment, it happened to find a strange book, about a far-away country, called Japan. He was so much impressed that he started searching more about it. He read the ancient «Kojiki», he enjoyed «Haiku» poems, he learned about the Samurai Code, he watched some strange Japanese cartoons, the «anime», he watched movies and heard the strange language of the people there.

With all this, his desire to visit this far-away and strange country was increasing more and more. And, suddenly, here it is! The luck, the God's will (who knows???) gave him the opportunity to finally go tho Japan, invited by the Japanese Embassy itself, representing his country, Greece, together with some other of his country-fellows, that he now calls them brothers and sisters!

So, a nice Monday, already a young adult, he left from his home and all together flew to Tokyo. Arriving there, the first shock came. That wasn't the one of the jet-lag, of the too many flying hours and of the time difference, it was the one of the 24 hours living city.

Because, that's Tokyo: a continuously living mega-city, with plenty of people, of all races and colours, where at that every single moment of day and night you can find whatever your soul desires.

But, even if it a such big metropolis, they never felt, him and his friends, any danger or threat. On the contrary, people there are so friendly, so gentle in their attitudes and behaviour, that your heart opens when being with them!!!

Few days later our friend left for Tochigi, a Japanese prefecture, for homestaying with local people, to get to know better their way of life. How many surprises were expecting him there!!!

First of all, in what language to speak??? Hmm, they don't know Greek, he doesn't know Japanese, English, French or any other «international» language isn't neither his strong point, neither their one, what to do??? Aha, here's the solution: few pictures and designs, some signs, a lot of pantomime, and incredibly much of laugh made communication possible!!!

Next surprise, the food!!! Come on, a burger for breakfast??? And, did we come to such a good restaurant for eating row fish??? And yet, our friend incredibly enjoyed all this. Yes, he hadn't got accustomed to eat row fish for lunch, neither to eat a burger at his breakfast, neither, of course, to drink green tea, to use chopsticks and to have rice, instead of bread, in all his meals. But, the tastes were so rich, the aromas so different, that he was feeling like discovering the real Japan, through its dinning table!!!

He also went to a Buddhist temple, also to a Sinto shrine, he saw how people pray there and he prayed to his own God, who had given him his blessing for being there!!!

About the lady of the homestay family, what our little friend to first remember??? Since the beginning, she reminded him the mums of some childhood friend of him, who, when he visits them in their parents' homes, do everything to hospitalize him in the best possible way and they spend all their time to make him feel comfortable, irrelevant if in reality they don't know him at all, or they don't have any common interests. That's how she was: they had nothing in common to talk about (language wasn't permitting it, any way), but, since the very beginning, actions gave to silence a meaning!!!

The days past and our friend returned to Tokyo. There, he went to an Olympic Youth Centre, where he saw his friends county-fellows again, but he also saw young people from other countries: Australia, Bahrain, Ecuador, Egypt, India, Kenya, Oman, Sri Lanka, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, Yemen, and, of course, Japan!!!

And it's here, in the Tokyo Olympic Youth Centre, where the real spirit of SWY started to be born!!!

Because here he saw for the first time an other aspect of the Japanese culture, the one of the perfect organisation and of the strict timetable, with the plenty long-lasting «orientations» and the continuous repeat of every single detail!

Because here he played for the first time with all the participants of the programme, because here he laughed for the first time together with all the participants of the programme, because here he met for the first time young people with whom he's been tied in strong friendships!

Time passed, the voyage with the Ship had to start, and our little friend, the one who dared to set out to Ithaca, he gained plenty of experiences that have become living experience. But, every time that he wants to reflect on his future, he turns his head towards East, he recollects in his mind the pictures, the sounds, the aromas, the tastes, the touches that he felt during this journey and he smiles with optimism, looking forward to his next trip there!!!

Because in Japan he fell in love and together he fell in love with Japan!!!

Young People's role in Promoting Better Health for All!

Some time ago I applied for the 16th ASEF University on "Public Health and Vulnerable Groups: Access to Quality Health Care Services", which will be held on 29/06-10/07/2010 in Łódź, Poland, in partnership with The Medical University of Łódź (Uniwersytet Medyczny w Łodzi).

The Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM), founded in 1996, gathers together 43 member states from Asia and Europe, the European Commission and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Secretariat.

The Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF), founded one year later, in 1997, is the only permanent physical institution of the ASEM.

For the application purposes, I had to submit a short essay on "How can young people play an active role in promoting better health for all in the context of the ASEM countries?", which you can read below:

Young people are a major agent for the development of a country and can play an active role in promoting new ideas and fields of (social) action or revitalising and empowering existing ones. Promoting better health for all in the ASEM countries is such an area of action and Young people can contribute through a variety of ways.

Participation in (Youth) NGOs and Social networks, while building on the benefits of the Voluntary Service and the Non Formal Education, to start with. Through creative projects, Young people can raise awareness (their own and the one of the public) on (Public) Health issues, Human Rights and Equality issues, Vulnerable Group issues; they can raise project-oriented funds for dealing with specific Public Health issues rising in their area of action; they can develop new ways of dealing with them; they can promote local action, as well as intercultural understanding and international co-operation, which is quite often necessary when (properly) dealing with Public Health issues

Moreover, Young people can be active in other fields of social life which are (directly or indirectly) linked to the Public Health and the Vulnerable Groups. Young scientists, for instance, can play an active role in studying the Public Health topics and provide a fresh context of reference and sustainable solutions for dealing with them, while Young businessmen can provide a more fair and responsible economic environment, which takes Public Health seriously into account and supports Vulnerable Groups.

Last, but not least: from the today's Young people, the future Leaders will rise. What is always necessary is Young people to seek for their own role in decision-making and older generations to have the courage to step back and provide the space needed. Young people carry the potential of shaping the future, and better Health for all can be part of this future!

Peace Café Update * Ενημέρωσι για το Καφενείο της Ειρήνης

The first Peace Café, organised in Athens by the Ship for the World Youth Greece Alumni Association, was absolutely successful!!!

Taro Yasuhi, the Japanese young man from Nagashaki, who created the Peace Café , co-ordinated a really interesting session on the Atomic Bomb and the Nuclear Power, facilitated by Gülece Şenel, from Turkey, a specialist on Conflict Management and the Turkish-Greek conflicts.

The participants (members of the Alumni Association, students of the Deree American College and other young people who are interested on the topic) had the opportunity to watch a documentary film on the A-bomb at Nagashaki, as well as to exchange opinions on the current situation regarding atomic weapons and nuclear power.

On the same time, Ship for World Youth Alumni and ex-Advisors from other parts of Greece, Japan and other countries, had the opportunity to be on-line and participate in the discussions held.

After the end of the Peace Café, all the participating Alumni gathered together and kept one minute of silence for the soul of Chika Aoki, a Japanese Alumni who suddenly passed away last week.

The day finished with a visit to the Temple of Poseidon at Sounion, to see the sunset and enjoy the Greek nature and ouzo!

Το πρώτο Καφενείο Ειρήνης, που διοργανώθηκε στην Αθήνα από τον Ελληνικό Σύλλογο Αποφοίτων του Πλοίου για την Παγκόσμια Νεολαία, ήταν απολύτως επιτυχές!!!

Ο Τάρο Γιασούχι, ο νεαρός Ιάπωνας από το Ναγκασάκι, ο οποίος δημιούργησε το Καφενείο της Ειρήνης, συντόνισε μία αληθώς ενδιαφέρουσα συνεδρία για την Ατομική Βόμβα και την Πυρηνική Ενέργεια, διευκολυνόμενος από την Γκιουλετσέ Σενέλ, από την Τουρκία, ειδικό στην Διαχείρισι Συγκρούσεων και στις Ελληνοτουρκικές Συγκρούσεις.

Οι συμμετέχοντες (μέλη του Συλλόγου Αποφοίτων, σπουδαστές του Αμερικανικού Κολλεγίου Ντηρή και άλλοι νέοι που ενδιαφέρονται για το θέμα) είχαν την ευκαιρία να παρακολουθήσουν μία ταινία τεκμηρίωσης (ντοκυμανταίρ) για την Ατομική Βόμβα στο Ναγκασάκι, καθώς και να ανταλλάξουν απόψεις για την παρούσα κατάστασι σε σχέσι με τα ατομικά όπλα και την πυρηνική ενέργεια.

Ταυτόχρονα, Απόφοιτοι και πρώην Σύμβουλοι του Πλοίου για την Παγκόσμια Νεολαία, από άλλα μέρη της Ελλάδος, την Ιαπωνία και άλλες χώρες, είχαν την ευκαιρία να είναι "εν γραμμεί" και να συμμετέχουν στις διεξαγόμενες συζητήσεις.

Μετά το τέλος του Καφενείου της Ειρήνης, όλοι οι συμμετέχοντες Απόφοιτοι συναθροίστηκαν και τήρησαν ενός λεπτού σιγή για την ψυχή της Τσίκα Αόκι, Γιαπωνέζας Αποφοίτου, η οποία μάς άφησε αιφνιδίως χρόνους την προηγούμενη εβδομάδα.

Η μέρα τελείωσε με επίσκεψι στον Ναό του Ποσειδώνος, στο Σούνιο, για να δούμε το ηλιοβασίλεμα και να απολαύσουμε την Ελληνική φύσι και το Ελληνικό ούζο!!

Light!!!
That's only how I can describe the experience I've had, for almost two months, in the 22nd Ship for the World Youth Program.
A Light which floods and renews my Soul, making me to get absolutely and really tied with People that before I wouldn't even meet, but, even if I would meet, we wouldn't even try to know each other!
A Light which, playfully shimmering, alters my points of view on myself, the Humans, the Nature, the whole World!
A Light which enriches, enhances, empowers and develops both myself and the network of People whom I consider as Friends, Partners, Fellows and Companions in the great fight of leaving this World a little better than what we found it.
I feel blessed (by God? by the Nature? by the Humanity? by my Country? by Japan? what's the matter???) that I've had this experience! Yes, I'm ready to transform this life experience to a living life-time experience. To turn the Light into Love!!!

Φως!!!
Έτσι μόνο μπορώ να περιγράψω την εμπειρία που έζησα, για δύο σχεδόν μήνες, στο 22ο Πλοίο για το Παγκόσμιο Πρόγραμμα Νεολαίας.
Ένα Φως το οποίο πλημμυρίζει κι ανανεώνει την Ψυχή μου, κάνοντάς με να δεθώ απόλυτα και πραγματικά με Ανθρώπους που πριν όχι μόνο δεν θα συναντούσα, αλλά και που αν θα συναντούσα ούτε καν θα προσπαθούσαμε να γνωρίσουμε ο ένας τον άλλον!
Ένα Φως το οποίο, λαμπυρίζοντας παιχνιδιάρικα, μεταβάλλει τις οπτικές μου γωνίες για τον εαυτό μου, τους Ανθρώπους, την Φύση, τον Κόσμο ολάκερο!
Ένα Φως το οποίο εμπλουτίζει, ενισχύει, ενδυναμώνει και αναπτύσσει τόσο τον εαυτό μου όσο και το δίκτυο των Ανθρώπων τους οποίους θεωρώ Φίλους, Συνεργάτες, Εταίρους και Συντρόφους στον μεγάλο αγώνα ν' αφήσουμ' αυτόν τον κόσμο λίγο καλύτερο απ' ότι τον βρήκαμε.
Νιώθω ευλογημένος (απ' τον Θεό; απ' την Φύση; απ' την Ανθρωπότητα; απ' την Πατρίδα μου; απ' την Ιαπωνία; τι σημασία έχει;;;) που έζησα αυτήν την εμπειρία! Ναι, είμ' έτοιμος να μετατρέψω αυτήν την εμπειρία ζωής σ' ένα ζον βίωμα ζωής! Να στρέψω το Φως σε Αγάπη!!!

The Scouts of the World Award (SoW) is an initiative of the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM) to help National Scout Organisations (NSOs) revitalise the programme of Senior Sections (15-26 age range) by giving Young People more opportunities to face the challenges of the future as identified by the Millennium Declaration unanimously adopted by the 189 member countries of the United Nations (UN) in 2000. Thus, its a part of the WOSM & UN "Youth of the World" Campaign.

Soma Hellinon Proskopon (The Scouts of Greece) is one of the NSOs accredited by the WOSM to run the SoW Programme. So, in its framework, the 1st Discovery Base, on the topic of Immigration, took place at the St. Andrew's Scout Centre, Athens, Hellas (Greece), on 13-15/11/2009.

The fifteen (15) participants, Rovers and Young Scouters, aged 18-30 years old, had the opportunity to visit a Refuge Residence, some NGOs, a School of Greek Language for Immigrants and the Festival of the Second Generation Immigrants in Greece, to talk with immigrants, refuges, Greek Police officers, NGO staff and representatives (lawyers, psychologists, social workers, youth workers, street workers) and to get global information about the situation of immigrants and refuges in Hellas (Greece), as well as to develop some skills on communication and conflict management.

The Participants are expected to participate in some, or, even better, to develop their own projects of voluntary service on immigration and to act as multipliers of knowledge, skills and positive attitude towards the topic.

Many thanks to Angelos Karamanis (Mr.), National Greek Commissioner for the Scout Network, Marion Karali (Mrs.), Member of the International Team of the Scouts of Greece, Giorgos Metaxas (Mr.) Assistant National Greek Commissioner for the Scout Network, and Marianthi Sflomou (Mrs.), Greek Scouter for their work towards a successful implementation of this Base and to Spyros Axiotis (Mr.), Manager of the Scout Centre, for his hospitality.

Το Πτυχίο των Προσκόπων του Κόσμου (ΠτΚ) είνε μία πρωτοβουλία του Παγκόσμιου Οργανισμού της Προσκοπικής Κίνησης (Π.Ο.Π.Κ.) για να βοηθήση τα Εθνικά Προσκοπικά Σώματα (Ε.Π.Σ.) να αναζωογονήσουν το πρόγραμμα των μεγαλυτέρων ηλικιακά Προσκοπικών Κλάδων (ηλικίες 15-26 ετών), παρέχοντας στους Νέος περισσότερες ευκαιρίες για να αντιμετωπίσουν τις προκλήσεις του μέλλοντος, όπως αυτές έχουν ταυτοποιηθεί στην Διακήρυξι της Χιλιετίας, η οποία υιοθετήθηκε ομοφώνως από τις 189 χώρες μέλη των Ηνωμένων Εθνών (Η.Ε.) το 2000. Το Σώμα Ελλήνων Προσκόπων (Σ.Ε.Π.) είνε ένα από τα Ε.Π.Σ. που έχει πιστοποιηθεί από τον Π.Ο.Π.Κ. ώστε να υλοποιή το Πρόγραμμα του ΠτΚ. Έτσι, στα πλαίσιά του, η 1η Βάσι Ανακάλυψης, με θέμα την Μετανάστευσι, έλαβε χώρα στο Προσκοπικό Κέντρο του Αγίου Ανδρέα Αττικής στις 13-15/11/2009.

Οι δεκαπέντε (15) συμμετέχονες, Μέλη Προσκοπικού Δικτύου και Νεαροί Βαθμοφόροι, ηλικίας 18-30 ετών, είχαν την ευκαιρία να επισκεφθούν τον μοναδικό στην Ελλάδα Ξενώνα Προσφύγων στο Λαύριο, μερικές Μ.Κ.Ο., το Κυριακάτικο Σχολείο Μεταναστών (όπου μαθαίνουν την Ελληνική γλώσσα), το Φεστιβάλ Μεταναστών 2ης Γενιάς στο Γκάζι, να συνομιλήσουν με μετανάσες, πρόσφυγες, αξιωματικούς της Ελληνικής Αστυνομίας, προσωπικό και εκπροσώπους Μ.Κ.Ο. (νομικούς, ψυχολόγους, κοινωνικούς λειτουργούς, λειτουργούς νεολαίας, κοινωνικούς λειτουργούς δρόμου) και να αποκτήσουν σφαιρική πληροφόρησι για την κατάστασι μεαναστών και προσφύγων σρην Ελλάδα, καθώς και να αναπτύξουν κάποιες δεξιότητες σην επικοινωνία και στην διαχείρισι συγκρούσεων.

Οι Συμμετέχοντες αναμένεται να συμετάσχουν σε μερικά, ή, ακόμα καλλίτερα, να αναπτύξουν τα δικά τους σχέδια εθελοντικής υπηρεσίας για την μετανάστευσι και να δράσουν ως πολλαπλασιαστές γνώσεων, δεξιοτήτων και θετικών στάσεων συμπεριφοράς αναφορικά με το θέμα.

What is a culture? Is it an onion with plenty of leaves until getting to its core? Is it an iceberg that only some of its parts can be seen and that clashes when it meets other icebergs? Is it the software of our minds, which needs to be re-installed from time to time, especially when we change environments?

What is an identity? Is it something that we have since we are born? Is it something imposed by society? Is it something static or dynamic? Is it who am I, who I think am I, who others think am I or who I think others think am I?

What is a stereotype? Is it a fixed form in our mind about others? Is it the way our brain simplifies things? Is it positive? Is it negative? Is it neutral?

What is a conflict? Is it that we don't understand each other? Is it that we can't understand each other? Is it that we don't want to understand each other? Is it that we don't care about understanding each other?

And, finally, what is other?

I don't know the answers to the questions above. I believe, however, one thing. Humans are rather members of the body of humanity than parts. So, the same way my heart needs my lungs, the same way I need other humans. Because, as heart fails without oxygen and lungs die without blood, the same way I'm not complete without other humans and other humans are not complete without me.

As I said before, that's my belief, a kind of faith of mine. But in my language, the word trust has the same root with the word for belief or faith. Hence, by trusting people, I'm just following my belief, my personal faith.

So, I'm Michail, I'm a Greek from Crete, I live in Cyprus and I blog for Trust!

Ο Μάνου Τσάο (Manu Chao), σε συνεργασία με ασθενείς της Ψυχιατρικής Κλινικής Χοσέ Μπόρδα (Jose Borda) του Μπουένος Άϊρες, ηχογράφησε ένα νέο λεύκωμα, τιτλοφορούμενο "Viva la Colifata!" ("Ζήτω η Τρέλα!").

Η Ψυχιατρική Κλινική Χοσέ Μπόρδα είναι γνωστή για το καινοτόμο της "Radio La Colifata" ("Ραδιόφωνο Η Τρέλα"), έναν ραδιοφωνικό σταθμό λειτουργούμενο από του ασθενείς της από το 1991, με ένα ακροατήριο περίπου 12.000.000 προσώπων.

Για του μη Ισπανόφωνους, colifata είναι στην Ισπανική αργκό η τρέλα.

Manu Chao, in co-operation with patients of the Jose Borda Psychiatric Clinic of Buenos Aires, recorded a new album, called "Viva la Colifata!".

Jose Borda Psychiatric Clinic is known for its innovative "Radio La Colifata", a radio station run by its patients since 1991, with an audience of about 12.000.000 people.

For the non-Spanish-speakers, colifata is a Spanish colloquial for craziness.

When, some time ago, I posted about the Anna Lindh Foundation Euro-Med Bloggers Training on Intercultural Dialogue, I had no doubts that such an innovative project would be more than interesting. Furthermore, taking as granted that I'm not any influential Blogger, I had no doubts that I couldn't participate to...

I was wrong! Shortly after having expressed my interest for participating, I received an invitation by the ALF and last Sunday I flew to Luxembourg!

The training was held in the Centre Culturel de Rencontre Abbaye de Neumünster, a really nice place combining natural, spiritual and cultural beauty. The main activities were on Monday, 27th, and Tuesday, 28th of July, 2009, and gave the opportunity to the some twenty participants to explore the paths of the Intercultural Dialogue and to search for new ways of using blogs, podcasts and social networking for promoting the Dialogue between Cultures.

This pilot activity was organised in the framework of the "Restore Trust, Rebuild Bridges" Campaign, which aims, through civil society actions, to promote the Intercultural Dialogue in the Euro-Med area and to facilitate the Peace process in the Middle East. As Mr. Andreu Claret, Executive Director of the ALF, stressed, that was the first in a series of events in which Bloggers will be invited, as it is the intention of the Foundation to gather at least 43 Bloggers from the 43 Countries of the Union for the Mediterranean in every one of its major activities.

From now on, the blogs, podcasts and social networks represented in the training will be listed, via feeds, in the new list "Bloggers for Trust", located in the upper right corner of this blog of mine. So, you can have a look on them!!!

Last but not least: I have to thank Suchithra, Satish and Anto, my colleagues in the Aretaeio Hospital in Nicosia, Cyprus, who accepted to exchange some of our working shifts and Andreas, my Head Nurse, who approved these changes, giving me the opportunity to gain such a great experience.

My Learning * Η Μάθησί Μου

Το Σχέδιο "My Learning" ("Η Μάθησί Μου") αποτελεί μία εξαιρετική πρωτοβουλία του καλού φίλου, Εκπαιδευτή Νεολαίας, Σάκη Κρέζιου, για την Αναγνώρισι της Μη Τυπικής Μάθησης στην Ελλάδα με την υποστήριξι των "Παιδιών εν Δράσει" και του Ευρωπαϊκού Ιδρύματος Νεολαίας του Συμβουλίου της Ευρώπης.

Στα πλαίσια του σχεδίου έχουν υλοποιηθεί διάφορες δράσεις, με κορυφαία την δημιουργία μίας ταινίας, την οποία μπορείτε να παρακολουθήσετε εν γραμμεί ή ακόμα και να την μεταφορτώσετε κλικάροντας εδώ.

Μετά που είδα την ταινία, έστειλα στον Σάκη ένα μήνυμα ηλεκτρονικού ταχυδρομείου με ανατροφοδότησι σχετικά με την ταινία:

Φίλε Σάκη, καλησπέρα!!!

Όπως σου είχα υποσχεθεί, ξεκινώ την ανατροφοδότησί μου για την ταινία.

Αρχικώς, να ξεκαθαρίσω ότι τα όσα γράφω εδώ είναι πρώτες εντυπώσεις, μιας κι έχει κάπου 10 λεπτά μόνο απ' όταν τελείωσα την προβολή της και μ' άλλα λόγια είναι σκέψεις που έκανα καθώς παρακολουθούσα ή που κάνω τώρα, καθώς σού γράφω.

Κατ' αρχήν, σάς αξίζουν συγχαρητήρια! Δεν το γράφω κατ' ευφημισμό ή επειδή το λένε οι κανόνες της καλής ανατροφοδότησης (μέθοδος αμφιαρτίου, κοινώς σάντουϊτς), αλλά επειδή πραγματικά το εννοώ! Εξηγούμαι:

Η ιδέα κινηματογράφησης της ζωής ενός νέου ανθρώπου και παρουσίασης, μέσω αυτής, της μαθησιακής διαδικασίας που ακολουθεί από την αντιμετώπισι μίας νέας κατάστασης/ μαθησιακής πρόκλησης έως τον καθορισμό μαθησιακών αντικειμενικών στόχων (έστω όχι πάντα ξεκάθαρων, κι αυτό καλό σημείο της ταινίας, ότι δηλαδή κάποτε θέλει ψάξιμο ο μαθησιακός στόχος) κι από 'κει στην καθ' αυτό μαθησιακή διαδικασία και στο μαθησιακό αποτέλεσμα είναι μια αρκετά πρωτότυπη σύλληψι. Επιτέλους, η ιδιωτική ζωή ενός ατόμου στην φόρα (με την συγκατάθεσί του, φυσικά) όχι βορά στο αδηφάγο τηλεοπτικό κοινό, αλλά ως σοβαρή τεκμηρίωσι για ένα σημαντικό θέμα!

Η ιδέα το αντικείμενο μάθησης (δεν μου αρέσει πολύ ο όρος αλλά δυσκολεύομαι να βρω τώρα καταλληλότερο, εννοώ το: "τι και περί τίνος αποφασίζω εγώ, ο μανθάνων, να μάθω") να είναι ένα συναίσθημα και μάλιστα το πιο ταλαίπωρο απ' όλα, η αγάπη, επίσης με ενθουσίασε! Έχουμε δει συχνά προσεγγίσεις στην μη τυπική μάθησι σχετικά με συναισθήματα, αλλά συνήθως αυτό αφορά στην μετατροπή αρνητικών συναισθημάτων σε θετικά ή σε μεθόδους και τεχνικές που χρησιμοποιούν θετικά συναισθήματα για τη δημιουργία κατάλληλου μαθησιακού περιβάλλοντος/ χώρου/ συγκειμένου, αλλά σπανίως (ίσως και για πρώτη φορά) μελετάται η διαδικασία μάθησης ενός νέου γύρω από ένα συναίσθημά του και μάλιστα στα πλαίσια της μη τυπικής μάθησης.

Ένα επιπλέον θετικό στοιχείο, περισσότερο τεχνικό, βεβαίως, αλλά ιδιαιτέρως σημαντικό, πιστεύω, είναι ο χρόνος της ταινίας. Τριάντα λεπτά είναι ένας πολύ καλός χρόνος, διότι κατά τεκμήριο δεν κουράζει τον θεατή, ιδίως τον "μη ειδικό" θεατή, αυτόν που για πρώτη φορά έρχεται σε επαφή με το αντικείμενο ή που δεν έχει ακόμα αρκετή εμπειρία πάνω σε αυτό, αλλά είναι και αρκετός χρόνος ώστε να προκαλέση σκέψεις, ακόμα και στον "ειδικό".

Να προχωρήσω σιγά σιγά στα αδύναμα σημεία.

Ενώ απήλαυσα την ταινία, μου άφησε λίγο την εντύπωσι ότι η μη τυπική μάθησι είναι κάπως απούσα, δίνοντας την θέσι της στην άτυπη. Τι εννοώ: το γεγονός ότι ο προγυμναστής και ο βιντεοσκοπών είναι πρακτικώς το ίδιο πρόσωπο, δεν κάνει ξεκάθαρο στον θεατή ότι έχουμε μία διαδικασία προγύμνασης η οποία λαμβάνει χώρα. Ίσως το θέμα είναι κάπως τεχνικό, αλλά αυτό ένιωσα.

Ένα άλλο αδύνατο σημείο είναι αυτό το οποίο ανέφερα πριν ως δυνατό: το θέμα αγάπη. Λόγω του ότι μιλάμε για συναίσθημα, η μάθησι αποκτά εξ ορισμού ένα κάπως πιο αφηρημένο πεδίο και πλαίσιο, κάτι το οποίο ίσως, στα μάτια ιδίως ενός "μη ειδικού" θεατή, να αφήση πολλά ερωτηματικά για το τι είναι τελικά αυτή η μη τυπική μάθησι.

Για να κλείσω με τα αδύναμα σημεία, ένα κυρίως τεχνικό, αλλά νομίζω ουσιαστικό. Πιστεύω θα ήταν καλό η ταινία, αφ' ης στιγμής δημιουργείται στα πλαίσια ενός σχεδίου προώθησης της μη τυπικής μάθησης στην Ελλάδα και αφού είναι πρακτικά, ως προς τον ήχο, δίγλωσση, να ήταν δίγλωσση και ως προς τους υπότιτλους. Έτσι, το δυνητικό "κοινό" της μεγαλώνει. Νομίζω ότι αυτό μπορεί εύκολα να γίνη και τώρα, μ' ένα εξωτερικό αρχείο υποτίτλων.

Αυτά ως πρώτες σκέψεις. Περιμένω την δική σου ανάδρασι (ανατροφοδότησι στην ανατροφοδότησί μου, δηλαδή) και σου υπόσχομαι, εάν κάνω δεύτερες σκέψεις, να στις γνωστοποιήσω.

Μια γιορτή στο δρόμο, ανοικτή σε όλους και σε όλες, σχεδιασμένη από τους 25 ευρωπαίους εθελοντές της Μη Κυβερνητικής Οργάνωσης Παιδιά Εν Δράσει, που ήρθαν στην πόλη μας από 6 διαφορετικές χώρες της Ευρώπης για να υποστηρίξουν εθελοντικά το φεστιβάλ κινηματογράφου Θεσσαλονίκης με το σύνθημα «ο Εθελοντισμός είναι Πολιτισμός».

Μια γιορτή που ανατρέπει τα δεδομένα των καιρών και πραγματοποιείται για τέταρτη συνεχόμενη χρονιά στους δρόμους και τις πλατείες της πόλης μας, φέρνοντας πιο κοντά στην καθημερινότητα μας τη μουσική, την τέχνη, τον πολιτισμό και τον εθελοντισμό.

A first of its kind Meeting of the Managing Adult Resources Network of the European Scout Region was held in the «Saint Andrew's» Scout Centre in Athens, Hellas (Greece), September 4 ^th – 7 ^th , 2008.

The Meeting, organised by the World Organization of the Scout Movement – European Scout Region (World Scout Bureau – European Regional Office) and the Soma Hellinon Proskopon (Scouts of Greece) – International Department, attended twenty six (26) Scout Leaders, active in the field of Adult Resources, from (14) Scout Organisations ( S.G.V., C.S.A. , G.S.F., S.H.P., B.I.S., A.G.E.S.C.I., S.N., C.N.E., O.N.C.R., W.S.B.–E.R.O., A.S.D.E., S.S.F., S.S.R., T.S.A.) and (13) countries (Belgium, Cyprus, Finland, Hellas–Greece, Iceland, Italy, Netherlands, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom).

The participants had the opportunity to deal with hot topics in nowadays Scouting, such as:

Επιστημονικό Συνέδριο με το ιδιαιτέρως ενδιαφέρον θέμα «Ο ρόλος της Τυπικής Εκπαίδευσης, της Μη Τυπικής και της Άτυπης Μάθησης στην διαμόρφωση της προσωπικότητας των παιδιών και των εφήβων. Τα νέα δεδομένα στα χαρακτηριστικά της ηλικίας.» διοργανώνει το Σώμα Ελλήνων Προσκόπων σε συνεργασία με την Γενική Γραμματεία Νέας Γενιάς, την Σχολή Ανθρωπιστικών Σπουδών του Ελληνικού Ανοιχτού Πανεπιστημίου και τον Τομέα Γεωγραφίας και Περιφερειακού Σχεδιασμού του Εθνικού Μετσόβιου Πολυτεχνείου.

Το Συνέδριο τελεί υπό την Αιγίδα του Υπουργείου Εθνικής Παιδείας και Θρησκευμάτων και θα πραγματοποιηθεί στην Αθήνα, στις 8 και 9 Νοεμβρίου 2008.

Εντάξει, το παραδέχομαι πως όποιος διαβάσει τον τίτλο αυτής της ανάρτησης θα νομίση πως είμαι γέρος!
Εντάξει, το παραδέχομαι πως δεν με πήραν ακόμα τα χρόνια, ό,τι κι αν λένε κάποιες κακιές γλώσσες, κι άρα ίσως ο τίτλος να μοιάζη υπερβολικός!
Εντάξει, το παραδέχομαι πως αυτό το κείμενο δεν έχει και μεγάλη σχέσι με το βασικό θέμα αυτού του ιστολογίου μου, τα ταξείδια και τις δραστηριότητες νεολαίας, δηλαδή.

Όμως, ήθελα να γράψω κάπου για μια υπέροχη χθεσινοβράδινη εμπειρία μου: Παίξαμε ποδόσφαιρο!!!

Ναι, ναι, καλά διαβάσατε, μαζευτήκαμε μια παρέα 14 αγόρια (ε, εντάξει, μερικούς μας έλεγες και... ώριμα αγόρια!!!) από την δουλειά, γιατροί, νοσηλευτές και λοιπό προσωπικό, κάναμε δύο εφτάρες ομάδες, πήγαμε σ' ένα γήπεδο εδώ στην Λευκωσία και παίξαμε!!!

Κάπου τέσσερα χρόνια (απ' όταν ήμουν στην Ισπανία) είχα να παίξω έτσι ποδόσφαιρο!!! Είναι γνωστό τοις πάσι πως δεν είμαι κανένας φανατικός αυτών των αθλημάτων, όμως, πώς να το κάνουμε, έχει κι αυτό μια ωραία πλευρά!!!

Για κάποιες στιγμές, ξαναγίναμε παιδιά!!! Τι πιο ωραίο;;;

Με μεγάλη επιτυχία πραγματοποιήθηκε η άσκηση ετοιμότητας για σεισμό που διοργάνωσε το Ίδρυμα Τεχνολογίας & Έρευνας και η Νομαρχιακή Αυτοδιοίκηση Ηρακλείου από την Κυριακή 4 έως και την Τρίτη 6 Νοεμβρίου 2007.

Η άσκηση, που είναι η πρώτη του είδους της στην Ελλάδα, πραγματοποιήθηκε στα πλαίσια του προγράμματος “SAFE – SAtelites For Epidimiology” του Ευρωπαϊκού Οργανισμού Διαστήματος (ESA), το οποίο αφορά στην εφαρμογή δορυφορικών τηλεπικοινωνιών για την έγκαιρη προειδοποίηση στην υγεία.

Σε αυτήν συμμετείχαν φορείς – εταίροι από διάφορες χώρες της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης (Γαλλία, Ισπανία, Ιταλία κ.α.) αλλά και από την πόλη και τον νομό του Ηρακλείου, τόσο από την τοπική αυτοδιοίκηση (όπως ο Δήμος Ηρακλείου), τις δημόσιες υπηρεσίες (όπως η ΔΥΠΕ Κρήτης), τις Ένοπλες Δυνάμεις και τα Σώματα Ασφαλείας, όσο και από τον χώρο του Εθελοντισμού και των Μη Κυβερνητικών Οργανώσεων (Σώμα Ελλήνων Προσκόπων, Σώμα Ελληνικού Οδηγισμού, Ελληνικός Ερυθρός Σταυρός, Πανελλήνιος Σύνδεσμος Αναπήρων Πολιτών, Σύλλογος Πολιτικής Προστασίας Ηρακλείου κ.α.), προσφέροντας ο καθένας την τεχνογνωσία και την εμπειρία των μελών του.

Οι Πρόσκοποι του Ηρακλείου συμμετείχαν με σαράντα οκτώ (48) Ανιχνευτές, Μέλη Προσκοπικού Δικτύου και Βαθμοφόρους, που ως κύρια αρμοδιότητα είχαν το στήσιμο του καταυλισμού σεισμοπλήκτων, ενώ κάποιοι εξ αυτών συμμετείχαν και στα σενάρια διάσωσης θυμάτων.

Οι Πρόσκοποι του Ηρακλείου επιθυμούν να εκφράσουν τις ευχαριστίες τους τόσο στους διοργανωτές όσο και στους υπόλοιπους φορείς – συνεργάτες σε αυτήν την δραστηριότητα, που απέδειξε πως με σωστό συντονισμό και συνεργασία μπορούμε να πετύχουμε ένα υψηλό επίπεδο Πολιτικής Προστασίας στην περιοχή μας και κατ’ επέκταση στην χώρα μας.

Το Σάββατο 6 και την Κυριακή 7 Οκτωβρίου 2007, στην Ιερά Μονή Αγίας Μαρίνας, στο χωριό Βόννη του Δήμου Αρκαλοχωρίου, πραγματοποιήθηκε το Ετήσιο Συνέδριο 2007 των Βαθμοφόρων της Περιφερειακής Εφορείας Προσκόπων Ηρακλείου.

Την επίσημη έναρξη των εργασιών κήρυξε ο Σεβασμιώτατος Μητροπολίτης Αρκαλοχωρίου, Καστελλίου και Βιάννου κ.κ. Ανδρέας, ο οποίος στην ευλογία του προς τους Συνέδρους εξήρε τις πανανθρώπινες Αξίες που πρεσβεύει ο Προσκοπισμός και ιδίως οι Έλληνες Πρόσκοποι.

Το Συνέδριο επίσης χαιρέτισαν οι κ.κ. Γεώργιος Χουρδάκης, Αντιπρόεδρος του Διοικητικού Συμβουλίου του Σώματος Ελλήνων Προσκόπων, Ιωάννης Βαβουράκης, Έφορος Προσκόπων Περιοχής Κρήτης και Νικόλαος Ντεβές, Πρόεδρος της Επιτροπής Κοινωνικής Συμπαράστασης Περιφερειακής Εφορείας Προσκόπων Ηρακλείου.

Τα θέματα που απασχόλησαν τους πενήντα τρεις (53) Βαθμοφόρους και τα δέκα (10) Μέλη Προσκοπικού Δικτύου της Προσκοπικής Κίνησης του νομού μας ήταν:

Απολογισμός Έργου Σεπτέμβριος 2006 – Σεπτέμβριος 2007.
Προγραμματισμός Έργου Έτους 2008.
Η Σύγχρονη Αποστολή του Βαθμοφόρου του Σώματος Ελλήνων Προσκόπων.

Στα πλαίσια του Συνεδρίου, το Σάββατο έλαβε χώρα Πνευματικό Βραδινό με τίτλο «Η Μάχη των Ιδεών», στο οποίο αναδείχθηκε η αναγκαιότητα της εποχής μας για μία αγωγή των νέων βασισμένη σε Αρχές. Την Κυριακή το πρωί οι συμμετέχοντες μετείχαν της Θείας Λειτουργίας.

Οι Πρόσκοποι του Ηρακλείου επιθυμούν να εκφράσουν τις ευχαριστίες τους στον Σεβασμιώτατο Μητροπολίτη κ.κ. Ανδρέα, στην Διοικούσα Επιτροπή και τις Μοναχές της Ιεράς Μονής Αγίας Μαρίνας, για την φιλοξενία και την αμέριστη συμπαράστασή τους, καθώς και τον κο Ελευθέριο Κοτζά, για την δωρεάν μεταφορά των Συνέδρων.

Η συλλογική αυτή διαδικασία ενδυνάμωσε όλα τα Ενήλικα Στελέχη των Προσκόπων του Ηρακλείου και έδωσε μια νέα ώθηση και δυναμική, καθώς αποδείχθηκε πως οι δραστηριότητες και ενέργειές τους έχουν τα ζητούμενα αποτελέσματα απο το Πλάνο Ανάπτυξης 2006 – 2008.

Με την ενεργή συμμετοχή τους οι συμμετέχοντες απέδειξαν για άλλη μια φορά πως το ρητό των Προσκόπων του Ηρακλείου, «ΟΛΟΙ ΜΑΖΙ ΜΠΟΡΟΥΜΕ», είναι ζωντανό όσο ποτέ.

Thoughts

It's been two months since the moment I left Poland to come back to Crete.
Two months without "dzien dobry" and "dzęknuje".
Two months without "my Polish family".
Two months without my mentor.
Two months without the friends I made there, in work and fun.
Two months without the Orthodox community of Koszalin.

A lot of things have changed during these months. Poland seems like an old memory now, like a dream from the past. Koszalin is faraway now, like an untouched vision in my mind.
Shall I see this country again? Shall I walk in this city again? Shall I drink its water? Shall I smell its perfumes? Shall I dance its dances? Shall I taste its food? Shall I feel its girls? Shall I pray with its people? Shall I...? Who knows...

But, this distance in space and time makes things more clear. Poland appears like a dream, but a living dream. Koszalin is like a vision, but not a cloudy one. It's a vision in a crystally clear sky...
This distance makes me see my EVS and my life in Poland in an other way. Makes me think about in an other way. Is it a more clear one? Perhaps. No doubt that it's a different one. It's a way with less passion, less temptation, less confusing feelings. But, full of sadness. Full of nostalgy. Full of eros. Full of love.

Yes, it was hard living in Poland. It was hard sharing a house with these three girls. A lot of times it was hard to communicate, it was difficult to find a common ground. Often we were eating in the same table, but not together. We were drinking in the same garden, but not together. We were dancing in the same place, but not in the same rhythm. Yes, sometimes, it was over my powers...

On the other hand, it was nice sharing things with them. Even if we had problems. Even if they never really liked me. Even if we never crossed some borders. Even if I never crossed some borders...

My last night in Koszalin, we made a farewell party for me and we exchanged some gifts. I gave to each one of them a card, with a poem in their own native languages and some thoughts of mine in English. All cards had the same ending, something like: "Perhaps we will not meet each other again. Possibly you will not think about me anymore. Sure you will not miss me. I doesn't matter. I wish you..." and my personal wish.

I still remember Meltem's surprise when she got a card written in Turkish, I stll remember Alejandra's reaction "It's Neruda, it's Neruda, it's my favorite poet, it's Neruda!!!", I still remember Amanda's hug.

And since that day, Meltem's question, in her lovely Turkish accent of English, has been fixed in my mind, has been stuck in my mind: "Michail, how can you believe that I'll forget you? Do you really believe that we can forget someone that we lived six months together?".

No, Meltem, no, Girls, I don't believe it. I never believed it. Neither now, neither when I wrote the cards. But, when you possed me that question, I already knew a Truth. I already knew a Truth written by cries, encraved by pain, taught by life. A Trurh which I learned by experience. A Truth that all Travellers, all Life Travellers know. I already knew the Truth which says that we tend to estimate things and people only when we miss them. That we must feel the distance to realise the lack of their presence, to understand the loss.

And when this moment arrives, we are ready to ask for forgiveness and to be asked for forgiveness. To give it and to take it. As we say in my language for forgive, to "sygchorein" (συγχωρείν), to "co-exist in the same space". Even if we live in far distance.

Meltem has birtday!!! * Η Μέλτεμ έχει γενέθλια!!!

Yesterday, Meltem had birthday and an other great opportunity for one more party appeared (as you have perhaps already realised we don't need too many reasons for a party here in Koszalin, and of course birthday IS a reason!!!).

In the morning she prepared sweets that shared with all the people of our association during the breakfast time, when gifts were exchanged.

Later in the afternoon we (girls and me, I mean) went to "Villagio", a pizzeria-restaurant here in Koszalin and then to the pub "Graal", where we met "our Polish parents" and some other friends to celebrate the day.

So, today we went to Piwiarnia Warka (Warka Beer Pub), one of the newest and best pubs in Koszalin. Enjoy the photos!!!

In my previous post I wrote that we were preparing a theatre play, based on the Hellenic (Greek) Mythology, to be presented in a Meeting of the Annexes of my Hosting Organisation in Mikołajki.

What I didn't write, because I didn't know, was than the Meeting was actually a competition!!! The 5th National Polish Competition on Theatric Arts for Mentally Disabled People.

So, we wen't to Mikołajki, we presented the play and we got the Second (2nd) Prize!!! A Prize that we had to share with the 2nd Workshop of Koszalin (WTZ-2), that presented a play about the Holocaust.

Theseus and the Minotaur travel to Poland!!! * Ο Θησεύς και ο Μινώταυρος ταξιδεύουν στην Πολωνία!!!

There's no doubt that, if you are a Hellen (Greek), you do know the Myth of Theseus and the Minotaur. If not, then you can visit Wikipedia, to learn more.

Why am I writing all this??? Because, nowadays, Theseus and the Minotaur are visiting Poland!!!

What that means??? Simply, in my Hosting Organisation we are preparing a theatre play based on that myth!!!

The play will be presented next week at a meeting of all the Annexes and Workshops of the Association, that will be held in Mikołajki, in Masury Lakes, on the occasion of the Day of the Dignity of the Mentally Disabled People.

The need to create a kind of presentation for the meeting, on one hand, and the request of the Hosting Organisation, expressed by both my Director and Mentor, that elements of my culture to be presented in the Project, on the other hand, gave birth to the idea of this drama play.

The preparations started some weeks ago, just after my return to Koszalin from Toruń and I think everything is going great. Following you can see some photos from the preparations:

Today was a really funny day in our Project!!! We had a BBQ breakfast!!! The weather was great (sometimes I'm wondering if I am in Poland or in Greece :) ) and we had great time!

The menu included sausages, kaszanka (traditional Polish sausages from pork blood and cereals) and two surprises: Hellenic (Greek) salad and tzatziki (traditional Hellenic sauce with yogurt, garlic and cucumbers).

And after (or should I write during) our breakfast we played football, tennis and other sports in the garden of our Association.

The "Free 2 Choose" Project in Hellas!!! * Το Σχέδιο "Free 2 Choose" στην Ελλάδα!!!

Some days ago I wrote a post about the Anne Frank Exhibition in Heraklion (and yesterday an Updates post), where I mentioned the "Free 2 Choose" Project of the Anne Frank Museum in Amsterdam.

Well, in the framework of this Project, the NGO "Kids in Action" created a short movie about the "Avaton of Mount Athos". Mount Athos is a religious community of male Monasteries of the Orthodox Church, where the entrance is banned for women.

The video presents both the opinions of the Monks and those who believe that the Avaton consists a violetion of Human Rights in Europe. The main aim of that video is to raise awareness about the limits of Freedom and Human Rights in real life and to act as a starting point for reflection and exchange of opinions of the topic.

A second video about "Albanian Pupils and Greek Flag" will be soon available.

Updates about the Anne Frank Exchibition at Heraklion * Νεώτερα για την Έκθεσι της Άννας Φρανκ στο Ηράκλειο

Some days ago I wrote a post about the Anne Frank Exhibition in Heraklion. Now, I'd like to share with you some information that I just got from Mr. Emmanouil Apladenakis, the Scout County Commissioner for Heraklion.

This six (6) days long Exhibition was visited by more than 800 visitors and 500 students (primary & secondary schools and Universities), that had the opportunity to read extracts from the Anne Frank's Diary, to see photos of the Holocaust period, to virtually (3D) visit her house in Amsterdam, to see the videos of the "Free 2 Choose" Project and through that to realise the importance of Human Rights and to reflect on their respect.

It worthies to mention here a comment made by Stefan, a Junior High-School Student, immigrant from Ukraine, that said: "Me also, the first time that I arrived in Greece, for almost one (1) year, I was not exiting my home..." .

It also worthies to mention the emotions of the older visitors, a lot of them victims of Nazism and Fascism and survivors from Concentration Camps.

I must also mention the comment made by the members of the Group of Recently Drug-addicted Purged Youngsters: "We suppose that we feel like Anne used to feel..." .

So, I invite you, after having also seen the following photos, to reflect on Human Rights and to think how many times in our daily life we discriminate other people (perhaps without wanted and not even realising it), just because they are different...

EVS MidTerm Evaluation Meeting, Toruń, 11-16/04/2007 * Συνάντησι Ενδιάμεσης Αξιολόγησης ΕΕΥ, Τόρουν, 11-16/04/2007

Like a glass of fresh water! That was for me this Meeting, organised by the Polish National Agency of the European Commission "Youth in Action" Programme.

The Meeting took place in Toruń, a beautiful medieval city of Poland, famous for its ginger-bread (in Polish: pierniki) and motherland of Nicolaus Copernicus (Mikołaj Kopernik), the astronomer who "stopped the Sun and moved the Earth".

The main aim of this event was to encourage the EVS Volunteers who participated in to reflect on their EVS Projects as well as on themselves and after that to plan better their Projects and (most important) their life.

That was fully achieved through a wide exchange of experiences, opinions, knowledge and skills about EVS Projects, EVS in general, Volunteer Work in general, Polish and other European Cultures, values and future plans.

Our Youth Trainers, Marta and Eliza, were really great and succeed to create a good climate and an open atmosphere, that really facilitated our learning process. Moreover, perhaps inspired by the beginning of the Spring, they picked-up as symbol of our Meeting the Flowers, giving that way a symbolic framework and a new dimension to our work.

So, let's leave our Flowers to grow-up!!!

Anne Frank travels to Heraklion * Η Άννα Φρανκ ταξιδεύει στο Ηράκλειο

The Anne Frank Exhibition at Heraklion (Iraklion), Crete, Hellas (Greece) opened today evening its doors to the visitors.

The Exhibition, organised by the Anne Frank Museum in Amsterdam, the Scouts of Heraklion (the local branch of the Scouts of Greece) and the NGO "Kids in Action" constitutes Anne's Frank biographical story, placed in the historical frame of the Holocaust.

The Exhibition is included in the activities organised in the framework of the "All Equal - All Different" Campaign (for the Hellenic site click here) of the Council of Europe and was officially opened by the Mayor of Heraklion, Mr. IoannisKourakis.

The main aim of the exhibition is to encourage the citizens, especially the young ones, to reflect on the Fundamental Human Rights, the International Peace, the Human Solidarity and the anti-Semitism.

The visitors have the opportunity to see shocking photographs from the life of the Frank family and the Holocaust period in general. Moreover, through computers and 3D animations can travel to the Anne's Frank House but also to the relevant Museum in Amsterdam.

An important innovation of this Exhibition consists the incorporation of the "Free 2 Choose" Project. The visitors watch videos in the form of a reportage where the limits of freedom and Human Rights are presented. The main objective of the project is to create a space for open discussion, exchange of ideas and reflections.

The Exhibition will be held at the Saint George's Gate (Pyli Aghiou Georgiou), from the 15th to the 21st of April, 2007.

Yesterday was a really important day for "our Polish family":
"Mama" had birthday!!!

So, we were invited to our "parents" home for a small party.

And after that to went together to pub "Graal", one of the best in Koszalin and girls' favourite one to enjoy.

Valentine's Day at our EVS Project!!! * Ημέρα του Αγίου Βαλεντίνου στο Σχέδιό μας ΕΕΥ!!!

It's true that I don't really believe in Valentine's Day. It's not just because Saint Valentine isn't a Saint of the Orthodox Church. It's mainly because I do believe that people in love don't need a special day to express it or to memorise on that. Every day for them is a Valentine's Day!!!

On the other hand, I do recognise that this day is a good opportunity to organise parties :) . And of course a great opportunity for Organisation like my Hosting one to create events. So, today we had a big Valentine's (in Polish: Walentynki) Party.

The people of the Educational, Social Rehabilitation & Inclusion Workshop together with the staff and the people of our Kitchen prepared sweets and Meltem with people from different workshops created a choreography that you can see in My Videos.

So, we danced, we ate, we drunk (not alcohol, of course!!!) and we exchanged Valentine's Cards and wishes.

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, we are famous!!! The whole Koszalin is talking about us. What do I mean? Oh, it's simple, too simple: we had our first Press Conference!!!

Well, for telling the real truth, the Press Conference was mainly Amanda's and Alejandra's, but we (Meltem & me) were there to support them. And I think everything was fine!!!

For the history, everything started some days ago, when our "dad" Marcin (that, as I've written before, is a journalist here in Koszalin) arranged a public presentation to local media about EVS and the girls' project.

So, yesterday afternoon we went to their Hosting Association, where a lot of journalists, cameras and of course questions were waiting for us. Amanda and Alejandra made a short but in deep presentation about themselves, their families and their lifes in their countries.

Moreover, they talked about EVS, their desicion to realise EVS, why they choosed to participate in this project, why Poland, e.t.c. ...

After that, we went to the local radio station, "Radio Koszalin", where a journalist took an interview from all of us and from Iwona. Now, you can ask who is Iwona. Well, she's a Polish ex EVS Volunteer in United Kingdom.

Conclusion: today, three local Newspapers have articles about us, one local Radio Station is broadcasting about us, two local TV Channels broadcast on News about us!!!

Polish Language Courses * Μαθήματα Πολωνικών

How does Polish sounds??? Like a radio, while searching for stations!!!

That short joke, told to me by Poles, shows how difficult can be to learn Polish, a language full of "close" sounds, such as "z", "ż", "ź", "rz", "s", "ś", "sz", "cz" e.t.c. .

Moreover, with a quite complicated declination of nouns and adjectives (7 causes!!!) and many rules for orthography, the scene becomes even darker...

On the hand, even if it is to early to have a complete image, Polish seems to be a language that gives to its user a wide number of ways to express his/herself and due its rich vocabulary creates a framework for both concrete and analytical expression.

Why am I writing all this??? Because today we had our first Polish Language Lesson!!!

It's an obligation for the EVS Hosting or Coordinating Organisations to provide language courses to their Volunteers and of course a Volunteers' obligation to participate in them. So, last week "our Polish family" had a meeting with our teachers, Kasia and Magda, we arranged the timetable and today we started.

Finally, snow!!! * Επιτέλους, χιόνι!!!

It's been one week that I'm in Poland, but I've seen no snow. Neither the weather was particular cold during this week. All here we started to be desperate:

"We came to Poland during the winter to see snow, but there's no snow!!! Where's the snow???"

Et voila!!! Yesterday evening started to snow!!! I'm posting some pictures, just to see how it looks!!!

Έχει πια μια βδομάδα που είμε στην Πολωνία, αλλά χιόνι δεν είχα δει. Ούτε ο καιρός ήταν ιδιαίτερα κρύος αυτήν την μια εβδομάδα. Όλοι εδώ αρχίσαμε να 'μαστε σε απόγνωσι:

"Ήρθαμε στην Πολωνία μέσα στο καταχείμωνο για να δούμε χιόνι, μα δεν έχει χιόνι!!! Πού 'ναι το χιόνι;;;"

Και ιδού!!! Οψάργας, που λέμε στην Κρήτη (εχθές το βράδυ, δηλά δη), άρχισε να χιονίζει!!! Αναρτώ, λοιπόν, μερικές φωτογραφίες, απλώς και μόνο για να δείτε πώς μοιάζει!!!

It's a big, two-floors house, with a small garden. Each one of the four of us has his/ her own bedroom. Moreover, we have a kitchen, a big living room, three toilets and a bathroom.

Now, I think I should write some things about an other important person in my life here in Poland: my EVS Mentor, Kasia.

Kasia is an therapist/ instructor in my Hosting Organisation, responsible for the Workshops of Art & Pottery. She's now realising a weekend Master's on Artistic Education (spesialised on Mental Disabled People) at the Academy of Fine Arts of Poznań, where she has also studied Design.

She's the only real English-speaker in our Hosting Organisation and that's the reason she's been chosen to be our Mentor.

But, speaking English is not the main reason that makes her precious for our Project: Kasia is a really supportive person, both in professional and personal levels. Always available to share experiences, exchange opinions and give solutions makes her more than a Mentor a Friend. And when I write Friend, I do mean Friend...

My EVS family * Η EVS οικογένειά μου

Well, I think it is the moment to present you my EVS "family", my "family" here in Poland. So, let's start:

Anna, the "mother": President of the "EUROPA Młodych" ("EUROPE of the Youth") Association, that is co-ordinating our EVS Projects here in Koszalin, Anna is working in a Municipal Cultural Institute.

She's quite smart and she loves complaining (as a lot of Poles do) about things, even if she already knows (or supposes) that they be better really soon.

She's really the "head" of the Association and the "heart" of our Project. Friends (that means also us) call her Annia.

Marcin, the "father": Annia's husband, Marcin is the Vice-President and responsible for the Economics of the "EUROPA Młodych" Association. Working as a journalist, he's our "media networking" person.

He's quite silent but makes really funny jokes. He always asks me about my life with the girls and still wonders how I succeed to live with three girls in the same house.

Meltem, the first "sister": Coming from Antalyia, Turkey, this 24 years old girl is my project partner. She describes herself as a feminist and she REALLY is!!! That makes things sometimes difficult for me, but I think there's always space for improvement.

Amanda, the second "sister": Amanda, 19 years old, is Swedish, from Oland. She's a quite silent girl, but she's also a great dancer. We're not worning in the same project, but her project is in a day-room for children coming from problematic families (alcoholic parents e.t.c.).

Alejandra, the third "sister": Coming from Murcia, Spain, this 18 years old girl is the youngest (but sometimes mature enough) member of our family. She's working together with Amanda and there's only one comment I can make about her: she feels the rhythm! No, she LIVES the rhythm. Whatever she does has a rhythm, a great rhythm...

Marek, the "big brother": Marek is a Polish ex-EVS Volunteer in France that lives in Koszalin. He studies in the local University of Technology and he also works in a real estate office. He is really our "big brother", as he takes care of us, shows us Koszalin night and student life (well, the one that exists :) ) and is always available for parties!!!

Koszalin, the capital of Middle Pomerania, is a small and quite quiet city of some 110,000 inhabitants in the north - west part of Poland, near the Baltic Sea (at around 4km in a straight line).

The city covers 83 km2 of picturesque land and is crossed by the river Dzierzecinka. Because of that, it's a genuine oasis of nature. Almost 40% of its total area consists of parks, forests and green grounds. Near the city centre is located the Chelmska Hill, which is 137m high and is covered by a forest.

The city is also near to the Jamno lake, that one has to go round one of its banks to reach the seaside (but that's really easy) and during the summer the nearby beaches are always crowded.

Moreover, there are two seaports near Koszalin, where one can also cross the border: Kołobrzeg (45km from Koszalin) and Darlowo (30km from Koszalin). Additionally, Koszalin is located in the route that connects Berlin with Kallinigrand. These two facts are crucial for the tourist and economic development of the city.

The city also plays the role of the main cultural centre of the region. One can find here a number of professional institutions of culture, as the Regional Museum, the Jamno Culture Open-Air Museum, the Philharmonic Orchestra, the Baltic Theatre of Drama, the "Dialogue" Proposal Theatre, the Municipal Centre of Culture. Their activity is complemented by dance groups, choirs and galleries.

To conclude, I'd like to share with you a quite impressive (at least for me) piece of information. In the main square of Koszalin, just in front of the City Hall, is located the Roman Catholic Cathedral of the city. Just a few meters on the eastern part of the square is located the Orthodox Church and a few meters in the south-east the Evangelic Protestant Chapel. Three different Churches, of the three main Christian dogmas, located in the same area!

EVS Pre Deparure Seminar * Σεμινάριο Κατάρτισης Εθελοντών ΕΕΥ Πριν την Αναχώρηση

Monday, November 6th, 2006. Really sleepy, I take the Aegean flight of 10:30 to Athens. The reason??? EVS Pre Departure Seminar, the Seminar that prepares the EVS Volunteers to participate to their Projects.

After a short visit to my sister (with all the goods that mum charged me to give her!), a short pass form the Scouts Headquarters and a little walk around Athens I went to the Stanley Hotel, at Metaxourgeio, where the Seminar took place.

The Seminar Agenda was really interesting. The main topics were: the Volunteerism concept, Intercultural Learning, Conflict Management, Group Dynamics, European Voluntary Service (EVS), the EVS Volunteers Righta and Responsibilities.

More over, the Seminar became more interesting by the fact that in the same hotel was simultaneously realising the EVS On Arrival Seminar, the training Seminar for the foreign Volunteers that arrived in Hellas during the last month.

Come on, Volunteers from Hellas and Europe, let's change the World!!!

Δευτέρα, 6 Νοεμβρίου 2006. Με την τζίμπλα στο μάτι, πέρνω την πτήσι της Aegean των 10:30 για Αθήνα. Ο λόγος;;; EVS Pre Departure Seminar, δηλαδή Σεμινάριο Εθελοντών EVS Πριν την Αναχώρηση ή (όπως λέγεται κι επισήμως) Σεμινάριο Προπαρασκευαστικής Εκπαίδευσης Εθελοντών, το Σεμινάριο που προετοιμάζει τους Εθελοντές EVS να συμμετάσχουν στα Σχέδιά τους.

Μετά από μια σύντομη επίσκεψη στην αδελφή μου (με όλα τα καλούδια που με φόρτωσε η μαμά για να της δώσω!), ένα σύντομο πέρασα από την Κεντρική Διοίκησι των Προσκόπων και μια βολτούλα στην Αθήνα πήγα στο Ξενοδοχείο Stanley, στο Μεταξουργείο, που έλαβε χώρα το Σεμινάριο.

Το θεματολόγιο του Σεμιναρίου ήταν πολύ ενδιαφέρον, μιας κι ασχοληθήκαμε με την έννοια του Εθελοντισμού, την Διαπολιτισμική Μάθηση, την Διαχείριση Συγκρούσεων, την Δυναμική Ομάδων, την Ευρωπαϊκή Εθελοντική Υπηρεσία (EVS), τα Δικαιώματα και τις Υποχρεώσεις των EVS Εθελοντών.

Το Σεμινάριο, όμως, έγινε ακόμα πιο ενδιαφέρον απ' το γεγονός ότι ταυτόχρονα πραγματοποιούταν στο ίδιο ξενοδοχείο και το EVS On Arrival Seminar (Σεμινάριο Εθελοντών EVS Κατά την Άφιξη), δηλαδή το Σεμινάριο εκπαίδευσης των ξένων Εθελοντών οι οποίοι ήρθαν στην Ελλάδα μέσα στον τελευταίο μήνα.

Λοιπόν, Εθελοντές απ' Ελλάδα και την Ευρώπη, εμπρός ν' αλλάξουμε τον Κόσμο!!!

My Bookseller * Ο Βιβλιοπώλης μου

My book - mania is well known amomg my family relatives & my friends. Once they name me bookfriend, twice they call me bookworm. And, for telling the truth, they have right.

Certainly I owe my love to books to my deceased uncle Ierotheos. But, frequently I wonder what I could do without my bookseller, Stergios.

A maniac reader himself, Stergios is for sure one of the most well informed persons in the book field in Hellas. But, the most important, is that at his bookstore (a family business that he runs with his wife, Lina, and their sons) they don't treat you just as a customer.

Always having coffee and drinks available for drinking, "Fotodentro"("Light-Tree", the name of the bookstore) is a gathering place where people of art, science and spirit meet each other every week to drink their coffee or drink, to exchange opinions and of course to read and buy books. So, it'a a bookstore - cafe.

Moreover, if you are a frequent client, it doesn't take a lot to Stergios to learn your interests and preferences and to propose you titles or to inform you about a recently published work relevant to them. On the other hand, if you simply pass by asking for a book that it's not available to his bookstore, he will not hesitate to tell you where you could possibly find it.

OK, that's fine, but why am I writing all this in a weblog on journeys and youth activities? Well, knowing that I'm going to Poland, Stergios recently found me a "piece of diamond", published in Hellas just on June.

A poem by Juliusz Słowacki, a Polish poet that lived in 19th century, same period with Dionysios Solomos, the National Hellenic Poet (that they knew each other). A poem under the title "The Agamemnon's Tomb", written during a journey in Hellas.

Apart from the excellent translation by Dimitris Chouliarakis and the marvelous edition by the Gavriilidis' Editions, this book is important to me for one more reason. It's bilingual, something rare (perhaps unique) for the Polish works translated into Hellenic, that, one way or an other, are just about twenty.

So, I think I owed to Stergios to mention it in public. Thank you, Stergios!

Η μανία μου για τα βιβλία είναι γνωστή σε συγγενείς και φίλους. Βιβλιόφιλο με ανεβάζουν, βιβλιοφάγο με κατεβάζουν. Κι εδώ που τα λέμε, δεν έχουν κι άδικο..

Η αγάπη μου για τα βιβλία οφείλεται βέβαια στον μακαρίτη τον θείο μου τον Ιερόθεο. Όμως, πολλές φορές σκέφτομαι τι θα 'κανα χωρίς τον βιβλιοπώλη μου, τον Στέργιο.

Μανιώδης αναγνώστης κι ο ίδιος, ο Στέργιος είναι ένας από τους καλλίτερα πληροφορημένους ανθρώπους στον χώρο του βιβλίου στην Ελλάδα. Το σημαντικότερο, όμως, είναι πως στο βιβλιοπωλείο του (μια οικογενειακή επιχείρηση που λειτουργεί μαζί με την γυναίκα του, την Λίνα, και τους γιους τους) δεν σε αντιμετωπίζουν απλά ως πελάτη.

Έχοντας πάντα καφέ και ποτά διαθέσιμα για κέρασμα, το "Φωτόδεντρο" (έτσι λένε το βιβλιοπωλείο του) είναι χώρος συνεύρεσης ανθρώπων της τέχνης, των επιστημών και του πνεύματος που κάθε βδομάδα βρίσκονται για να πιουν τον καφέ ή το ποτό τους, να ανταλλάξουν απόψεις και φυσικά να διαβάσουν και ν' αγοράσουν βιβλία. Ένα βιβλιοπωλείο - καφενείο, δηλαδή.

Εξάλλου, αν είσαι συχνός πελάτης, ο Στέργιος δεν θέλει πολύ για να μάθει τα γούστα και τις προτιμήσεις σου και να σου προτείνει τίτλους ή να σε ενημερώσει αν εκδόθηκε ένα καινούργιο έργο των ενδιαφερόντων σου, ενώ αν είσαι απλά περαστικός και ζητήσεις ένα βιβλίο που δεν έχει δεν θα διστάσει να σου πει σε ποιον συνάδελφό του μπορεί να το βρεις.

Ωραία όλ' αυτά, αλλά γιατί τα γράφω σ' ένα ιστολόγιο που έχει να κάνει με ταξείδια και δραστηριότητες νεολαίας; Λοιπόν, γνωρίζοντας πως θα πάω στην Πολωνία, ο Στέργιος μου βρήκε πρόσφατα ένα διαμαντάκι, που εκδόθηκε μόλις τον Ιούνιο στην Ελλάδα.

Ένα ποίημα του Πολωνού Ιουλίου Σλοβάτσκι (Juliusz Słowacki), σόκαιρου του Σολωμού (με τον οποίον γνωρίζονταν), με τίτλο "Ο Τάφος του Αγαμέμνονα", το οποίο έγραψε με αφορμή ένα ταξείδι του στην Ελλάδα.

Πέρα απ' την υπέροχη μετάφρασι και επιμέλεια του Δημήτρη Χουλιαράκη και την καλαίσθητη έκδοσι του Γαβριηλίδη, το βιβλίο αυτό είναι για μένα σημαντικό και για έναν ακόμα λόγο. Είναι δίγλωσσο, πράγμα σπάνιο (ίσως και μοναδικό) για τα Πολωνικά έργα που έχουν μεταφραστεί στα Ελληνικά, τα οποία άλλως τε είναι δεν είναι καμιά εικοσαριά.

Λοιπόν, όφειλα νομίζω μια δημόσια αναφορά στον Στέργιο. Ευχαριστώ, Στέργιε!

It's been a lot of time I was thinking to do EVS. Now, you can ask me "What is EVS?". EVS stands for European Voluntary Service.

EVS is the Action 2 of the European Commission YOUTH Programme. It gives the opportunity to young people aged 18-25 to live in an other European Union country (or even a country outside the Union), working voluntarily in an educational & social project that can last from some weeks to up to 12 months. Moreover, it has been said that after January 1st, date that the YOUTH Programme will be replaced by the "Youth in Action - YiA" Programme, young people aged up to 30 could become volunteers, but it's not sure yet.

There are plenty of topics for the projects, such as art & culture, xenophobia, people with disabilities, mental health, environment. We've said, educational and social topics.

Of course, you'll ask me: "Why EVS?" "Why not?", I reply. It sounds good to me and I want to see if it is as intrensting as I'm imagining. It gives me the opportunity to live to an other country, to learn the language spoken there (or, at least, to try to), to get in touch with an other culture, to deal with something that I'm interested in and to offer voluntarily whatever I can. So, "why not EVS?"

So, I talked to myself (when you are in the army, you have plenty of hours to talk to yourself) and thee are some months I desided that it will be in Poland.

Poland? You'll freezee, buddy! Did you think well about? Are you going to leave your sunny Crete to go to cold Poland and Baltic Sea?

Yes, Poland. Just to see something different. I'm in dire boredom of Western Europe and Mediterranean. That means I had to choose between Skandinavia and Eastern Europe. Finally, I desided the second one, cause something tells me that the route to Skandinavia is easier than the route to Eastern Europe, meaning that the possibilities to go sometime in my life to Skandinavia are more than to go to Eastern Europe.

Moreover, for beeing honest, I also thought about the cost of life. OK, the Programme covers enough costs for the volunteers (house, food, pocket money), but, whatever to say, the Euro value is different in Poland and for example Sweden.

Now, why Poland and not an other country? Fisrt of all, because I already have some friends there (partner Erasmus students that we were together in Spain the previous winter, or partner students from the Italian language course last summer in Italy) and second, because something attracts me to this country. Its interesting history, its unique soviet past, its culture, I don't know what...

Moreover, I had allready had a look at the projects database that Commission has on the intenet and I had seen that in Poland there are some extremely interesting ones on the topics I'm interested in: mental health and people with disabilities. Mental Health? People with disabilities? It sounds hard. May be, but I like challenges! On the other hand, it could be because of a proffessional perversion. Allways, since my first year studying Nursing, these two areas chalenge me. Perhaps because of my inspired professors, perhaps because of my sensibilités, perhaps because of other personal experiences, I don't know.

Well, when I finished my military service on August, I searched the database and I knew exactly what I wanted: A project with a minimum duration of 6 months, on mental health or people with disabilities and for sure in Poland. I searched the projects and finally I found some that could cover my interests.

I contacted my friend Kostas in Larisa, from the "Farmakidis" Youth Mobility Centre, we searched the responsibles of the projects in Poland, finally I was accepted in one of these and we made the application, that on September 1st we send to the Hellenic National Agency of the YOUTH Programme, that is a service of the Hellenic Secretariat General for Youth, to be approved.

And finally, it was approved. Monday afternoon, I was talking on the phone with my friend Maria, also ex-volunteer as Kostas is, about a different project, inrelevant to EVS, when I told her about my EVS application and she told me that the names of the approoved applications were launced that morning on the Secretariat website. Additionaly, she had the list in front of her, she searched and VOILA! , my name was in. So, now I'm sure:

After Christmass, I'm going to Poland! Na zdrowie!

Εδώ και αρκετό καιρό έλεγα πως θα κάνω EVS. Τώρα, θα μου πείτε τι είναι το EVS. EVS θα πει European Voluntary Service, δηλαδή Ευρωπαϊκή Εθελοντική Υπηρεσία. Επισήμως, στα ελληνικά είναι ΕΕΥ, αλλά ελληνιστί είναι... EVS.

Το EVS είναι η Δράσι 2 του Προγράμματος ΝΕΟΛΑΙΑ της Ευρωπαϊκής Επιτροπής. Δίνει την δυνατότητα σε νέους 18-25 ετών να ζήσουν σε μια άλλη χώρα της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης (ή ακόμα και εκτός Ένωσης), εργαζόμενοι εθελοντικά σε ένα εκπαιδευτικό & κοινωνικό σχέδιο, κοινώς project, το οποίο μπορεί να διαρκεί από μερικές εβδομάδες μέχρι 12 μήνες. Μάλιστα, από 1η Γενάρη, που το ΝΕΟΛΑΙΑ θα αντικατασταθεί από το "Νέα Γενιά σε Δράση", λέγεται πως οι εθελοντές θα μπορούν να είναι μέχρι 30 ετών, αλλά δεν είναι ακόμα σίγουρο.

Οι θεματικές των σχεδίων είναι πάρα πολλές, από τέχνες & πολιτισμός μέχρι ξενοφοβία, άτομα με αναπηρίες, ψυχική υγεία ή περιβάλλον. Είπαμε, θέματα εκπαιδευτικά αλλά και κοινωνικά.

Βέβαια, θα με ρωτήσετε: "Και γιατί EVS"; "Γιατί όχι;", απαντώ. Μου ακούγεται καλό και θέλω να δω αν είναι τόσο ενδιαφέρον όσο φαντάζομαι. Μου δίνει την δυνατότητα να ζήσω σε μια άλλη χώρα, να μάθω την γλώσσα εκεί (ή τέλος πάντων να προσπαθήσω), να έρθω σ' επαφή με μια άλλη κουλτούρα, να ασχοληθώ με κάτι που με ενδιαφέρει και να προσφέρω εθελοντικά ό,τι μπορώ. Οπότε, γιατί όχι EVS;

Κάθισα λοιπόν, τα συζήτησα με τον εαυτό μου (στον στρατό έχεις άπειρες ώρες να συζητάς με τον εαυτό σου) κι έτσι έχει κάτι μήνες που αποφάσισα πως θα είναι στην Πολωνία.

Πολωνιά; Πολύ κρύο, βρε αδελφέ, το σκέφτηκες καλά; Θα σηκωθείς να φύγεις απ' την ζεστή σου την Κρήτη να τρέχεις σε Πολωνίες και Βαλτικές;;;

Ναι, Πολωνία. Για να δω κάτι διαφορετικό. Την δυτική Ευρώπη, λίγο πολύ την έχω φάει στην μάπα. Την Μεσόγειο το ίδιο. Άρα, ή Σκανδιναβία έπρεπε να πάω ή Ανατολική Ευρώπη. Κι είπα το δεύτερο, γιατί κάτι μου λέει πως στην Σκανδιναβία πιο εύκολα σε βγάζει ο δρόμος, παρά στην Ανατολική Ευρώπη.

Και, να 'μαστε κι ειλικρινείς, σκέφτηκα και το κόστος ζωής. Εντάξει, το πρόγραμμα καλύπτει αρκετά έξοδα στους εθελοντές (σπίτι, φαΐ, χαρτζηλήκι), αλλά όπως και να το κάνουμε άλλη αξία έχει το Ευρώ στην Πολωνία, άλλη φερ' ειπείν στην Σουηδία.

Τώρα, γιατί Πολωνία κι όχι κάποια άλλη χώρα; Πρώτον, γιατί ήδη έχω κάποιους φίλους και φίλες εκεί (συμφοιτητές Erasmus που ήμασταν πέρυσι τον χειμώνα μαζί στην Ισπανία ή από το θερινό σεμινάριο Ιταλικών πέρυσι το καλοκαίρι στην Ιταλία) και δεύτερον γιατί κάτι με προκαλεί σ' αυτήν την χώρα. Θες η πολυτάραχη ιστορία της, θες το ιδιότυπο σοβιετικό παρελθόν της, θες η κουλτούρα της, δεν ξέρω τι...

Άλλως τε, ήδη είχα κοιτάξει στην βάσι σχεδίων που έχει η Ευρωπαϊκή Επιτροπή στο διαδίκτυο κι είχα δει πως στην Πολωνία έχει μερικά άκρως ενδιαφέροντα για τους τομείς που μ' ενδιαφέρουν: ψυχική υγεία και άτομα με αναπηρία. Ψυχική Υγεία; Άτομα με αναπηρία; Δύσκολο ακούγεται. Ίσως, αλλά μ' αρέσουν οι προκλήσεις. Ίσως, πάλι, να 'ναι από επαγγελματική διαστροφή. Πάντα, απ' όταν ήμουν πρωτοετής στην Νοσηλευτική, αυτοί οι δυο τομείς με ενθουσίαζαν. Θες γιατί είχα εμπνευσμένους καθηγητές, θες γιατί με πιάναν οι ευαισθησίες μου, θες από άσχετες προσωπικές εμπειρίες, δεν γνωρίζω.

Τον Αύγουστο, λοιπόν, μετά που απολύθηκα απ' το στρατό, μπήκα στην βάσι σχεδίων, κι ήξερα πολύ καλά τι ήθελα: Ένα σχέδιο τουλάχιστον 6 μηνών, σχετικό είτε με ψυχική υγεία, είτε με άτομα με αναπηρία και φυσικά στην Πολωνία. Έψαξα τα σχέδια κι επιτέλους βρήκα κάποια που μ' ενδιέφεραν.

Επικοινώνησα με τον φίλο μου τον Κώστα στην Λάρισα, στο Κέντρο Κινητικότητας Νέων "Φαρμακίδης", ψάξαμε τους υπεύθυνους για τα project στην Πολωνία, τελικώς με δέχτηκαν σε ένα από αυτά κι έτσι φτιάξαμε την αίτησι, που υποβάλλαμε στις 1 Σεπτέμβρη στην Ελληνική Εθνική Υπηρεσία του Προγράμματος ΝΕΟΛΑΙΑ, η οποία υπάγεται στην Γενική Γραμματεία Νέας Γενιάς, για έγκρισι.

Κι επιτέλους, η έγκρισι ήρθε. Μιλούσα την Δευτέρα το απόγευμα με την φίλη μου την Μαρία, πρώην εθελόντρια όπως κι ο Κώστας, στο τηλέφωνο για ένα άλλο project, άσχετο με το EVS, όταν της είπα πως είχα κάνει αίτησι για EVS και μου είπε πως τα ονόματα των αποδεχθεισών αιτήσεων είχαν ανακοινωθεί εκείνο το πρωί στο site της Νέας Γενιάς. Μάλιστα, είχε μπροστά της τη λίστα, την έψαξε και ΙΔΟΥ το όνομά μου ήταν μέσα. Έτσι, λοιπόν, είμαι πια σίγουρος:

Μετά τα Χριστούγεννα, πάω Πολωνία! Να ζντρόβγιε!!!

Kandersteg '99

A great experience!!! A whole week in the Swiss Aples. A project organised by the Scouts of Heraklion at the Kandersteg International Scout Centre in Switzerland.

I was there, co-ordinator of the communication group of the organising team, together with some really great friends from Crete -Apostolis, Manolis, Maria, Marios, Michalis, Maria, Dimitris, to name few of them, but we also had the opportunity to crate new friendships from all over Europe and the rest of the world - I still remember a Scout Leader from Australia that we exchanged our Scout scarfs.

If you are a Scout, listen to me: Take the chance, live experiences like this one.
If you are a Scout Leader, listen to my advise: Offer experiences like that to "your" kids.
If you are just a young person, looking for great adventures, just one thing for you: search, be informed, catch the opportunities; there are a lot of them out there; and -why not?- join the Scout Movement!!!
